I really only noticed it in the opening scene with space ships landing. I was expecting lens flares so bright every time a lightsaber hit that my eyes would bleed.

Five or six times tops.

The only time we get lens flare is when we would really get it e.g. light from a giant laser beam. He went with the intentional, artificial flares in Star Trek because of some vague idea about futurism.

the mere fact that you put The Phantom Menace ahead of Empire Strikes Back and Attack of the Clones ahead of A New Hope AND The Force Awakens is beyond hilarious!!!

I don't think I've EVER seen The Phantom Menace ranked ahead of Empire Strikes Back!!!

It's not that fella,he rates "The phantom menace" second, now I don't have as much hate for that movie as some people...but even I have to admit it's pretty much the weakest of all the Star Wars movies.

A new hope
Empire strikes back
The force awakens
Return of the jedi
Revenge of the sith
Attack of the clones
The phantom menace

Of course it's all opinions at the end of the day......just surprised that's all.

2. Captain Phasma looking awesome like Boba Fett, and then getting taken out like a punk...just like Boba Fett. I hope they give her a meatier role in the sequels.

3. Blowing up the republic without explaining what it had become seemed an odd choice. I mean, was that the whole republic? If there's a republic, why does there need to be a resistance? I hope they have more than the six x-wings or so at the end of the movie. I'm sure the sequels will reveal this in greater detail, though, so it's a minor issue for me.

4. The music wasn't as memorable as the other Star Wars films. Say what you will about the prequels, but Williams still made excellent soundtracks for them. This one didn't really stick with me.

5. Ultra minor nitpicky stuff here, but Snoke is a funny name and Snoke himself wasn't that intimidating.

Some responses:
[Show spoiler]1. Agree
2.She was worse then Bobba Fett since she did absolutely nothing and lowered the shield no question.
3. It was my belief that they didn't destroy the whole republic, just the heart of it. I'm assuming the planet we saw was Coruscant. It would be like somebody nuking Washington.

And because of those visions and voices in her head, maybe just maybe Rey was subconsciously learning the way of the Jedi through current-day Luke, who was secluded on the mountaintop, yet probably channeled her spirit since she is in all likelihood, his own daughter. As we all know, Skywalkers can sense other Skywalkers' feelings and thoughts, so perhaps this is the case implied here, but nothing was ever confirmed out loud in the script until a future film.
About Rey....
[Show spoiler]I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that she was a quick learner and learning her powers on the fly. It makes her appear like the strongest gifted future Jedi ever. For me it was the best scenes and Ridley conveys such bewilderment that you can only feel as amazed as her when she discover it works. When she use Mind Control. Such an amazing scene!! Force pulling the saber from the snow! God I need to go watch the movie again!

Think of all the youngbloods who are gonna watch this movie.

Daisy Ridley as Rey is going to be the childhood crush, as Emma Watson was to Hermione.

I gave the movie 5 stars but couldn't help but think, "haven't we seen this before?".

[Show spoiler] Another Death Star? Really? "Oh but this one is bigger!" Uh huh. And the next one will be invisible right?

Hoping we get a more original plot line for the next two. This was fun, and loved all the characters. Especially Kylo Ren.

Had to laugh
[Show spoiler]every time Kylo AKA Ben takes off his helmet, his hair comes out all perfect and big and lush! Like, how long does it take him to tuck it all back in there? Must be a chore! haha I did notice that every time he does take off his helmet, you never see it all in one shot, there's always a cutaway

he's been ragging on the movie ever since it was ANNOUNCED and has rabidly defended the prequels ad nauseum. him not liking "The Force Awakens" is about as shocking as Armond White not liking Schindler's List

[Show spoiler]I don't think it was Coruscant. I think it's a new planet from the Aftermath book but I could be wrong. From what I understand, after ROTJ, the Republic rose again and Mon Mothma decide to demiliterized it. The Resistance was created by General Organa as the Military side of the good guys to offer some protection. That's just what I've heard at least.

I almost feel guilty for liking Abrams version of Star Wars...almost.

I am still digesting the Starkiller base. On one hand I think its the best thing since sliced bread and on the other I want to know how the damned thing was constructed. It had to cost a ton of credits. Did Snoke front the bill for it?

Who the hell is he? Where does he come from? Not Endor, not Hoth, not Tatoonie, not Coruscant, not Naboo, not any of the worlds we have seen on film. I am sure the answer is out there, elusive for us to find out in VIII or IX.

Does he wield a lightsaber? How did Palpatine not see Snoke as a threat?

Can anyone here answer that?

Also, Rey.
[Show spoiler]The Force really likes her. Maybe the Force is a male?
