yeah know how it works there. like most Canadian cities Montreal is near the US border. with my rabbit ears I have channels from Burlington Vt and Plattsburgh Ny but the one with most subs is 4. I don't want to imagine how bad the one with 12 subs must look and sound.

Do you see how much Canada needs to modify their broadcast kingdoms to make way for progress? ATSC 3.0 could have dozens of 720P channels in one channel bandwidth as a example. .
I am more for quality over quantity. I want ATSC 3.0 for quality 4k not for a lot of crappy content on over compressed 720p.

Yep, the cramming of content is far more likely.

Sure, or even buying in bulk. I'm sure the majority of those hardware sales were bulk orders for places/organizations where folks may need around the clock care and/or supervision, and the players are there to keep people distracted and entertained.

last time I checked the plan was for 40 markets to go live this year, and with sub channels and like JohnAV insinuated it was to merge for now more than one main network/channel on the same one.

Don’t get out much do you. Streaming using a remote is easier for the care team.

I don't get out much lately.

I'm glad I have discs though because my kids are online with Zoom meetings for school several times a day. We are a family of 5 and share a bonded DSL connection. I'm glad my movie watching isn't making the online video calls all broken up audio and potato vision.

Lately I'm watching a lot from my physical media collection.

Well, the hardware most likely has the apps for streaming - they're self-contained. Efficiency at its finest.

I seen multiple films show up as 4K streams that preceded the studio ever released them on 4K media such on iTunes. This is not new. I seen where Netflix shows a unreleased new movie in 4K a couple of weeks before it’s out at BB.

The question is this a new scan of the camera negative and full fledged restoration or an older scan just up-converted to UHD? I would wager many of these UHD streams of older movies comes from 2K (or less) sources.

This is the exact question that should be asked. I bet they are up-converted.

NPD: Disc Sales Boosted During Pandemic in Areas With Less Population

Quote:
Less densely populated regions in the United States, often with lower numbers of COVID-19 cases and less stringent stay-at-home policies, drove up DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales growth since the middle of March, according to data from The NPD Group.

Since the middle of March, video disc sales in the populous and hardest hit areas of New England and the Mid-Atlantic census divisions were down 2% and 3%, respectively, compared to the average weekly sales in January and February. Comparatively, disc unit sales in less populated areas with fewer than a million residents increased nearly two times faster than more densely populated areas.

“It’s very encouraging to see so much DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales activity happening in these regions, demonstrating consumers’ appetite for quality entertainment,” said NPD analyst John Buffone.

The 2013 Olive Films release of Running Man that wasn’t great PQ was being streamed in 4K on Amazon. It’s a old 35mm title, since they never offered it in 4K, I would guess this one is just HD w/HDR upscale at best.

You do know that DI to make a Disc is the same DI used for Digital Streaming. Also the Streaming Providers can't change that DI sent to them by the Studios, unless it's their Studio.

The reasons are irrelevant. It’s the lack of control the consumer has over such things that is the concern.

The streaming version and disc version can be similar but the disc usually has 10x as much data.

Throw out 90% of the data and stream it.

I admit, I stream stuff from Amazon Prime and YouTube so I'm not all physical only but I can't imagine getting rid of any discs when they all are usually the best representation of the feature in question.

Quality matters.... for some.
