Does anyone else fancy the idea of starting a new thread for those of us who have already seen this movie, so that we can discuss the film without clicking on spoiler tags all of the time? Maybe label it "Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler Thread" or something of the sort...

Enjoyed it, gave it a 4. Great cast, some fun action, enjoyable nostalgia.

I'm at a bit of a loss for the new generation.

Is Poe a big piece of the new story? No idea.

Is Captain Phasma a big piece.... an interesting character? No idea.

Finn is a fun, interesting character... is he an important one? Don't know.

Rey is great.

My problem with the 90% of the new generation is this: when A New Hope was done, I had followed their story I knew who my center was in the films. This was my family in this universe. Poe is a pilot. His action figure tells me he is important to the overall story. Finn tagged along in Rey's story. Captain Phasma was a non presence. Besides Rey and Ren, everyone else was part of a picture frame.

I do look forward to seeing where these characters fit in a bigger story, but I don't really care about them yet.

I hope Episode 8 will be able to highlight why these characters mattered so much, because Episode 7 didn't really provide that as much as I would have hoped.

Overall, I liked it and I'm happy to have this movie and I'm looking forward to the next more now that we've gotten the obligatory fan service out of the way. I feel like I'll truly not know what to expect from a Star Wars movie for once with Episode 8, and that is very exciting.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet. I'll spoiler this because people who haven't seen the movie yet would not be able to answer.

[Show spoiler]
Remember that promotional leaked stuff? I'll be more precise: the Elite Stormtrooper:

I can't recall it being in the movie, maybe I was still waking up and missed it, but I think it's not in the movie at all.

I was curious to how these Stormtroopers would play a role in the new Star Wars films.

Just further proof that they didn't really think this through with regards to the whole saga.

[Show spoiler]So if you watch the films in order, you'll have two films in a row here and three within the span of four films where the Rebels have to destroy a planet-destroying space station by flying X-Wing's into it. It's going to be horribly redundant and banal to see that, two movies in a row, especially since the scenario's are so similar with our heroes on the station as the attack takes place like in Return of the Jedi.

Kylor, they were just action figures. Hasbro makes a lot of stuff that isn't in the actual films. Always have. They just re-use stuff from other toy lines too.

Or those pesky bad guys just kept building armoured space stations, with enough power to destroy a whole planet.

To expand on foggy's answer:

So, yes. Should scrub up nicely as a UHD BD release at some point hopefully

[Show spoiler]At least in Jedi, due to the fact that both stations were being built at the same time roughly, the design was the same. In this, they 30 years to make the space station more fortified and fix the problems with the Death Star and they didn't? It's just lazy writing. Period.

Or bad design, that little exhaust port on the original "Death Star" would have never passed building safety regulations imo.

Yeah you would think they would learn by now and set up a giant net or fly swatter or fired the person who come up with the blue prints for the thing.
