Yeah, it’s groundbreaking stuff, we all should have commented. Who would have thought that would happen? ![]() The altered content issue has already happened. The aspect ratio shift with The Simpson’s, digital tampering with Splash, Toy Story 2, Adventures In Babysitting, Free Solo, The list goes on. Screw that. |

When I have time for movies, I make sure it's on disc now so I don't cause the online classes they take to break up. I don't have any guns so I'm ok with giving the paranoia to my movies. ![]() Last edited by bhampton; 05-07-2020 at 09:35 AM. |

The difference being, people are probably enjoying their old discs because post is taking along time (sometimes 2-3 weeks from same country, 5-7 weeks overseas). We also have folk who are not really into films but are so bored they are indulging. This is a brief boost for digital, it’s that simple. |

People with physical media can worry about losing them.
People who buy online movies don't have anything to lose and may not realize that. People who only rent have basically nothing to worry about movie wise aside from the availability of a lot of crap content to sort through. I like to sometimes watch something I have never heard of and certain steaming sites are good for that. esp if they are free. They aren't without purpose. My biggest problem with streaming is with people who think they are buying movies and building a collection and refuse to acknowledge the truth. I bought digital movies but I learned the hard way they can disappear and it's part of the contract you agree to. If studios want to promote a cable tv channel or start up subscription service they can pull the movies whenever for whatever reason. The Studios upload to services like iTunes and then iTunes sells things they do not own and I have a problem with that. I think it's deceptive. If you try "going digital" and buying movies and you don't have any problems it's because you don't pay attention. THere's plenty of problems and the whole buying online movies as a business is outdated and being consolidated and maybe will even be left behind. Business exists with cash flow. UV, Vudu, CinemaNow, Target Ticket, and all these services that sell you a rental are discovering there is no positive cash flow and they are passing on the problems and cutting the loses. Movies Anywhere seems like the best thing because it brings all the services out of the storm and under one roof. Then it occurs to anyone - Disney runs Movies Anywhere and Disney is hit harder by the currently lifestyle change than any business ever. Disney was used to tons of free money and now are losing just as much every minute. Someday they will look at Movies Anywhere and Disney+ and decide which one they like better. Or not... we shall see. Thankfully for the moment they are still supporting physical media with lots of new releases. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 05-07-2020 at 10:00 AM. |

I really think that most places that SELL digital movies are really just places that mostly rent digital movies and if you buy one you can check it out whenever if they still have it.
I'm trying to imagine what it would have been like in the old days. If Blockbuster sold movies that remained in the store and you just go borrow them if they were available and eventually they would revert back to Blockbuster control. Imagine how many people would have gone for that. The places that SELL streaming content don't OWN it. The attached screen shot shows a movie I "OWN" on iTunes, Amelie. It went back to cable circulation and left the iTunes Store. I still have access to a version (with iTunes extras so it's a actual iTunes purchase I made) in my library for now. iTunes suggests I should subscribe to Cinemax streaming service to watch this. With some movies when you scroll to how to play you can play your owned version but this movie only suggests Cinemax service. Cloud movie Buyers are in for a rude awakening if they ever realize the truth of what they purchased. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 05-07-2020 at 01:23 PM. |
