We have Criterion, Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, Third Window, Artificial Eye, etc.. I think we will be ok!

It’s a shame but there was always going to be casualties in the current climate. Don’t worry yourself, focus on the fact that UV has vanished, Wal-Mart have gave up on Digital HD and Netflix and Disney may not show a profit with their streaming services for many many years if at all.

In other words, worry about your own ship first.

I only just noticed myself on the Twilight Time thread. Very sad to see it disappearing, although I haven't bought any titles from them for about a year or so now, as lately the import costs made them far too expensive. They certainly produced some outstanding releases, and they were region-free too......always of great interest to me.

That’s not what it means in my part of the world. A gentlemen’s bet is a agreed wager that has been sealed only by a handshake. No paperwork or signatures etc..

So.......£1,000?

Nah . . . make it $1,000,000.

Seriously . . . don't you use Webster's Dictionary in your part of the world? That's where the definition came from.

Plus you said "many, many" years. Exactly how long is that on a calendar?

I’m a scrabble champion, we don’t use dictionaries!

Report: Disney+, Netflix Eyeing Combined 475M Subs by 2025

Quote:
With entertainment distribution turned on its head by the coronavirus pandemic, new projections on global subscription video-on-demand says the market will increase 81% (519 million subs) through 2025 to 1.16 billion subscribers. The SVOD market will add 170 million subs in 2020, according to Digital TV Research.

Disney+ is expected to add 176 million subs to reach 202 million. Netflix will add 91 million subs to 267 million. DTVR says five other global SVOD platforms will have 640 million combined SVOD subs by 2025 — spearheaded China’s domestic players, which will account for 23% of the global total.

“We have completely revised our forecasts for 138 countries in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic,” analyst Simon Murray said in a statement. “A major impact of lockdown has been a steep rise in SVOD subscriptions.”

It may be that the usage of "many, many years" in this instance is like the usage of "very, very soon" in those posts where the death of discs were predicted back in 2014-2015.

I asked one such poster who had made just such a prediction in 2015 what "very, very soon" meant in precise terms as it was 2019 and their prediction had not come to pass and I was told with sarcasm that it doesn't mean "overnight." So, "very, very soon" is not as soon as "overnight" but it is apparently longer than 4 years.

Got a notice from Wink today saying I now must subscribe or my Wink will stop working on Wednesday. I really do not want to learn Linux but if I get a notice from MS saying I must subscribe or Windows will stop working then I will be off to Red Hat or another Linux vendor.

Well....

I have been tempted to delve into the world of Linux myself. I am a Windows 7 holdout and I detest Windoze 10, but that's a different rabbit hole for a different thread.

I only mentioned the above because it seems everyone wants access to your wallet on a monthly basics (subscription). Amazon started asking if I want to subscribe to receive certain items that I purchase every month and receive a 5% discount.

Yeah, they ask me to do that with some items, even offering 30% off on my first automatic refill order. They allow you to set the refill cycle as far ahead as every six months, not just monthly.

As I mostly buy discs from them, this offer does not apply very often, anyways.

Generally, I do not allow anyone to automatically charge me for anything except for my annual Amazon Prime membership- my only exception. I have known a few people who have regretted granting automatic access to their bank accounts; allowing it can be far easier than cancelling it and erroneous charges can occur. I much prefer that my expenditures be a deliberate decision.
