I have for an integrated amp, but I want to gaurantee that I can power 4 ohm speakers, that is why NAD and Sherwood NC are at the top of the list.

Roughly $1000 for a great receiver... and then I may or may not get the bookshelfs at the same time and run as a phantom center or just wait another year and then get new speakers and just have a much better receiver for the Energys, which is what I am thinking of doing.

I have thought of Cambridge, but I doubt I will go that route.....

Ah ok yeah that receiver is quite pricey tho but it does it all I looked at the manual and it does drive anything between 4 and 8 ohms and looking at the extremely low distortion it produces I felt this thing was the real deal.

You realize this thing produces 10 times less distortion then my HK

Hmm in Louisiana they may be almost impossible to find but if you give me your zip may be I can find a dealer not to far from you.

well I am looking at the NAD 747 or the Sherwood NC 872, both are about $900-1000

The thing is I want a receiver that will process HD audio, so that 640 doesn't meet all my wants. The new 650 would be what I want, but its like $1599 list...So for me the NAD and SNC are better deals.

The SNC is firmware upgradeable, has lots of good features, power, connections, zone 2 automatic switching... that is an awesome feature.

lol I cannot believe a posted a review of the 640 lol yeah the 650 would have been better but hell yeah now I get it those NADs looks quite nice.

Man I'm not sure what direction I'm going to take with my amplification if I get a new recever or juste get an amp, and amp for me will be a better investment as I have preouts and the amp will last me forever.

It's just remarkable and whats great about them is they are made in Canada as Dynaudio is probably made all in Danemark. Nothing from those speaker makers is assembled in China.
yeah, your speakers are good, very good, we have entry level speakers.

Dynaudio makes everything for their speakers, drivers, tweeters, crossovers, cabinets, the wood and wood veneers come from Denmark, all hand assembled. You don't get better then that. BUT YOU PAY FOR IT TOO!!!!!!!

Totem hand builds their cabinets and crossovers, they buy their drivers from Dynaudio, and ATI, and the tweeters come from SEAS, however everything in the design and mfg of the tweeters and drivers is overseen by Totem to meet their specifics.

So you can see that these two companies are why BigAl and I find them to be the 2 best MFGs out there. Totems are a little more affordable. Dynaudio is a little bit truer sounding, meaning they tell you the truth about what your listening to. However they're both top of the line.

Oliver..... I was showing my wife the pics of the Totem Rainmakers and Dyn Excites, and she loves the Totems.... She also loves the Focus 140s..... but for the price, she loves the Totems again, 2 votes from her for Totem.... I am pretty sure I will be buying Rainmakers....

NAD is probably the top of the list, followed by the SNC pretty closely.

Im almost thinking if I get a new receiver and TV/AV stand this year and then next year, I can get the speakers and speaker stands......

BigAl, you may just want to get an amp, if I had pre-outs, I would just get an amp, probably the XPA-3 for myself, however since I don't have pre-outs, I want a good receiver I don't have to upgrade for a long time... and that can power the Energys really well until I get new speakers.

Also MB Quart tweeters are use in the Totem speakers and indeed they modify all the drivers to their specs.

What are peoples opinions on Energy Take FPS speakers. Thinking about buying 5 for front, center and rears and be done with it as they are currently going for $119.97 each on AMZ.com. Want something good but no spending a fortune.

They are good speakers. You would be overall pleased with them. What they won't be is overly bright sounding. But they can get loud. For on-wall speakers they are very nice and affordable. Like most Energy speakers, what you get from them is a very good product for a decent price. As for most on-walls, don't expect a ton of bass, but they will give you pretty good mid-range and highs.

well what she did like was the looks AND price, the 140s are $2100 and the center is $1100, she doesn't want me to be spending $3300 +tax on speakers....

However what my real thoughts are, is that I can get the Rainmakers and Rainmaker Center and then snatch up a pair of Hawks from A'gon or a B-stock/demo pair from a dealer..... when I find them.... then I would have the ultimate setup.

Callas, I too was looking at the XPA-3 when I was waiting for my RC-10's to come in. My receiver has pre-outs so I'm considering adding an amp in the future as well.

By the way, I do notice a big difference after the 100 hrs of break in on them. They sound fabulous, and I found the bass set to about +2 and treble to 0 sound just right. Very nice detail across all frequencies. I had to chuckle this morning while listening to Christian McBride again. Half way through a tune where he is playing his stand up bass alone without drum or horn accompaniment, I heard a voice in the background saying "yea," like he was enjoying his playing. I had to laugh cause I never heard that before.

The wife is at work so I have Black Hawk Down in the BD player with those RC-10's cranked up. They seem to handle everything you throw at them with ease.

see there you go.... Lovely speakers you have there....I am glad you are finding them so enjoyable. If I were you I would get a center and towers first, then the XPA-3, because I think your receiver can handle the speakers just fine, JMO.

Oh yes, that is the plan. The receiver handles the RC-10's just fine. If I do end up getting the amp it will only be after I have all the speakers upgraded.

I still think you would see a noticable improvement with the amp right now, those babies can really take a serious beating you can drive them with as much as 175 watts.

There is always a noticeble benifit for amplification

yes, an amp will provide an improvement, but I would think if he got his center replaced and perhaps towers and moved the RC-10s to the back, his older Onkyo could give them decent power, enough to make Miker happy.... until he gets an amp.

I kind of knew what you were gonna say and it's fully understandable for a guy that does have 100% job security I don't think he should jump on an amp right away. I don't even have one for my mother sakes. But I want one

Really i just wanted to point out the pros of amplifying his speakers and really it's not a must right now.

Changing his speakers is the way to go, you can't miss the boat while it's there and the RC series is closing out real soon.

well it looks like I may just go with the NAD 747 receiver, audio sound is just far superior to any other Marantz, Pio Elite, Onkyo, or whatever, and the power is cleaner.

When I get my taxes back I may be getting that and a new AV rack, then I will be ready for speakers.

I think what I will do is get the Rainmakers for LCR, and then eventually add either the Mites or Dreamcatcher as rears.

Then later when I am really ready, I will add either an Anthem or NAD amp. Its nice to know what the plan is.

Can you get text messages? I can text you a pic of the eD if you would like to see it... I need to find my wifes charger for her Camera... I don't know what happened to it. PM your number, i'll send you some tomorrow.

I was thinking more and more about what my next setup should be.... if I went Dyn, that would be $4000 on 5.0 bookshelf setup (X16 $1600, X12 $1200, X22 Cen $850), where as the Totems would be about $2600 for a 5.0 bookshelf setup..... yes there is a little bit of performance difference, but enough to make me regret it??? NOPE. Plus I may be able to find Hawks online later or b-stocks and that would be a great setup, if I got the Rainmakers first and then found the Hawks later...
