Great film. Loved it. Seen it twice already. IMAX 3D is the way to go. Will see it again. Can't wait for the Blu-ray. No more to say. Bye.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that felt that this was a remake of ANH in disguise.

I think the movie is OK but some things felt rushed and non sensical like...

[Show spoiler]How can a stormtropper last so long in a sabre duel with a trained Jedi/sith whatever? and how does the force really works? Luke, which according to the movies was the most powerful Jedi ever had to endure intensive training from Yoda to master the force, sabre duel an whatnot. Rey, has a go at it and she's a master of the force and dueling

the stuff w/Rey will most likely be explained in one of the next 2 movies.

Anakin was the most powerful Jedi ever, his son is definitely up there but I am one of the few who feel the man's training was rushed due to circumstances in the OT. He's definitely well beyond old hermit Ben Kenobi's level at this point though.

I seriously have to wonder if you were to busy munching your food to pay attention to the film.

[Show spoiler]Finn DOESNT last long. He lasts all of a minute, maybe 45 seconds before Ben puts him in a coma. Rey is very obviously trained, likely by Luke, before the film even starts. as for her duel with Kylo, the dude was SHOT, STABBED, AND SLICED multiple times before her portion even begins! Second, Kylo is PURPOSELY holding back the entire fight against here trying to get her to join him. Just like Vader in Empire. Even with Kylo hurt, the only reason he gives up is because the ground seperate for them.

Saw it this morning @ 9:45 showing and overall it did not dissapoint - 4/5 rating.

It has the best acting and script of any Star Wars movie and still has a feel that brings you back to the OT.

What I liked:

* BB-8...can compete with R2-D2 for charisma in a droid. Give the little guy a thumbs up...
*The cinematography/shot composures and practical sets.
*The interaction and expressions of the characters.
*The tension and emotions you feel in various scenes throughout because of their nostalgic tie-in value...
[Show spoiler]one of the first being the introduction to the Millennium Falcon scene...such a hilarious yet tears of joy moment .... the whole audience laughed then yelled in excitement.

*About Luke Skywalker...
[Show spoiler]his appearance at the end and how his daughter has her arms out for him to accept his light saber and duty back...powerful scene with ZERO dialog!

What I could have been better:
*The music score...while not bad, has to be the weakest of all the movies
*Captain Phasma...
[Show spoiler]Seriously only about two short scenes with her, and none of them involve much more than dialog? Here's hoping she does more in VIII than walk around and talk for less than a minute in the entirety of the film...LOL

*Kylo Ren...
[Show spoiler]I think the character was done well, no issues there. But personally I think it would have been better if he would have been able to keep his helmet on throughout except for only the Han Solo scene. There was no issue with great expression of emotion with the helmet on and it just lent more to the character being conflicted and driven by the dark side along with being more imposing figure. The Han Solo scene works so well since it is father/son face to face and there is immediate hope for Ben coming back right until the light literally fades out.

*Light Saber battles were okay, but lacking in intensity - this is a whole franchise wide issue though.
[Show spoiler]Kylo Ren was competent enough though highly choreographed, but Rey just has horrible form until she goes into force mode for the final like 10 seconds of the fight. Her slow as molasses two-handed thrust should have gotten her instantly killed...but Kylo was just be playing around until the end because he could have dispatched her at any time before she finally "awakened"... I'm still waiting to see a Star Wars movie with outstanding light saber duels...we keep getting anemic/highly choregraped duels. JJ Abrams should reference some notable Anime titles like Sword of the Stranger, Karas, and Samurai Champloo to notch things up to gritty epic level.

Saw The Force Awakens in 2D, want to go back and see it again, in 3D for the second viewing.

So I've been busy "munching my food" but you have seen these comments everywhere So I'm the one obviously wrong.

[Show spoiler]Try go sword fighting with a trained sword fighter and we will see if you last the longest 45 seconds I have seen. The fight went on far too long. Also does it matter that Kylo was "hurt". He should easily minimize it with his dominance of the dark side. Or that only works to mind read?

Also, don't go on how a storm trooper could be trained to wield a sabre. It's long established that the light sabre it's a noble weapon only used by the Jedi/Sith

I find it odd people are going on with this line of argument, but I never see them busting Rocky movies or Bond films or Disney musicals or westerns or damn near any other long-running franchise for giving people what they want. It's a Star Wars movie. Abams, Kasdan, and Kennedy just delivered what people expect and want to see. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Yes, from people like you who don't pay attention.

[Show spoiler] Yeah, sure, I'll fight a trained swordsman. If I get to put a bullet in him first, it won't exactly matter now will it? It's also very clear, and mentioned several times, that Kylo is NOT a master of anything. He's still in training. It's also obvious that he doesn't want to use the force during saber fights. He enjoys the thrill of the actual act of fighting. Otherwise he wouldn't have fought ANYONE the entire film, and just used the force the whole time.

And I didn't say Finn was trained to use the Saber. He wasn't. He got his ass kicked in a matter of seconds in both his fights. He WAS however, canonically mind you, trained to use that riot gear thing the other trooper had. He lasts as long as he does against Kylo because Kylo is wounded and not thinking straight, while also madani wrong away from kylo. He charges at the start of the fight, realizes what he's in for, and spends the next twenty seconds backing up and getting his butt whooped.

Nice to see you completely ignore why you're wrong about Rey though.

Anyone who's going to see it again and didn't catch this...my mind is BLOWN. What does it MEAN?!

[Show spoiler]Near the end of Rey's vision, just after she sees her young self on Jakku, Obi-Wan, Alec Guiness style, calls out to her. "...Rey?" I've found a clip of it and replayed it over and over. It's absolutely an old Obi-Wan and the guy who did him in one of the TV shows has confirmed he did voice work for the movie.

Enjoyed it immensely. The Force is strong with this one.

Still…
[Show spoiler]I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but it absolutely seems like an expensive and incredibly well done piece of fan fiction, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'll see it multiple times in the theaters simply because it has TIE fighters, and I will cheer the fantastic young cast (all of whom are amazing)… but I just can't reconcile it with the Saga. Not yet, anyway. The paint's too fresh. Maybe in a few years. After all, I only embraced the prequels THIS year, LOL… and I'm not even kidding.

[Show spoiler]The one thing it's REALLY lacking for me is the incredible "third act" momentum of Lucas' efforts. EVERY other Star Wars flick gets better in the third act, rocketing us to the conclusion. Even if you hate Menace, the third act packs a punch. Even if you think Clones is the worst thing ever filmed, the battle of Geonosis is pretty freaking awesome… etc. This one… meh… I thought the first hour and a half was a "9 out of 10", but the last half hour: more like a "6" for me. And that doesn't seem like my olde timey Star Wars. Guess I'll have to see it five more times, to get used to it. (But frankly, the prospect of sitting through the last half hour again kinda bores me!)

Note: for what it's worth, these are "opinion of style" spoilers, NOT plot spoilers.

If it really is
[Show spoiler]Obi-Wan, then that makes me wonder if those old rumors about Rey (though at the time we didn't have a name for her) being Obi-Wan's daughter/granddaughter/niece may be correct after all...

Not believing the hype this time. I fell for that trick with Phantom Menace a long time ago in a theater far, far away and left strongly disappointed. I still have the stigma to this day.

However before I do go watch Force Awakens, like many of you already have, I'll be doing my Star Wars marathon: A New Hope (Theatrical DVD), Empire Strikes Back (Blu-Ray), and Return Of The Jedi (Theatrical DVD).

[Show spoiler]You also have to mention that Kylo's wounds are slowing him down, so he hits his side repeatedly during the battle, and he gets short boosts of energy it seems. He must be using the surging pain to recharge and regain focus on the fight. The dark side is strongest when you use your pain and suffering as a tool to unlock those powers. That's what Ren was doing here, using physical pain to make him strong with the dark
side.
