I wouldn't reflow, but I would definitely open it up and blow it out. Possibly clean and reapply thermal paste, depending how it looked.

Hey guys I have a question about backing up files. I mean I know some games wont back up onto an external hard drive, but I heard if you transfer data to one PS3 to another, all your saves go there. So my question is, if I transfer my saves from one PS3 to another and I want to upgrade the HDD on the PS3 that sent the files to the other PS3, can I get those files back onto the PS3 with the upgraded HDD?

all right, I also have a question about transferring game saves.

I just got my 80 GB backwards-compatible PS3 back from a YLOD repair.

I bought a slim PS3 while it was out and decided to keep it.

I am now going to sell my old "fat" PS3 (if any of you want it, PM me immediately before I put it up on ebay. I'm sure it'll go quick on there, and we'll talk numbers).

Anyway, my question is this, and excuse my stupidity: how do I go about transferring everything from the old PS3 to the new one? what kind of cable do I need? I don't need to have both of them hooked up to a tv do I? Will transferring everything overwrite some of the new stuff I have saved on the new one?

Help/instructions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

The crash sent a series of 3 or 4 big surges through the neighborhood, and it fried a lot of my neighbors' gear. Fortunately, all my HT stuff was on surge protectors, so I ended up better than most. I lost my new dryer, which was painful, as well as an older DVD player which was on a surpressor that was torched. I had neighbors who lost refrigerators and full HT room gear. One neighbor lost around $20k in gear.

Anyway, after all of this happened, I found out that my power company offers whole house surge suppression installed at the meter, before the house. It has an audible alert if ever tripped and a lifetime warranty for only $229. Everything is still on surge protectors, but now I have the whole house system acting as the first line of defense. Any of you with homes, I suggest you look into it as well.
It comes highly recommended from me as well. It has saved my stuff countless times. My price was a little different though ($280) but well worth it.

60 GB? If you can afford it, you should just get the PS3 slim of your choice.

Buy a slim. I just bought one the other day and I was amazed by how much smaller this thing is. I still have the old fat one Uncharted Edition one. I'm going to be swapping my data over though when I get home.

Well you're trophies are saved on the PSN server so you don't have to worry about that. As soon as you sign on to PSN on your new PS3 you'll have all your trophies. You can transfer stuff on you're HDD to you're PC.

Reno, NEVADA. "Battle Born"
Default Is my drive dead?

I am getting 80010516 for game discs (if the PS3 even recognizes that they are in the tray), and 80029941 for movies...

I figure it is likely my PS3 BD laser died, but I dont want to go fixing it if is something else, and I sure as hell dont want to play Sony $160 to fix a problem with their hardware.

What are the options?

Default 2nd PS3 has gone belly up

Well my second PS3 I've owned has gone belly up. Optical drive has crapped out. Games and movies freeze up the system. This was a 40 gig that had replaced the original 60 that died the YOLD way. I called sony tech support and got the usual trouble shooting procedures and that did nothing.(restoring file system etc.) I really don't want to send it in.... I've gone through 2 ps3's in the past 4 years. Is it me or does that sound ridiculous? ANYWAY. Has anyone here had issues with the dive in their PS3 dying?

See my post from a couple weeks ago. I ended-up buying a slim from BB during the 20% cashback deal last week. Not sure yet if I want to take a chance and replace my laser @ $50 (which may or may not work) or just sell the thing on eBay as-is.

Yeah, I don't have the time or desire to change the laser.... Thanks for the suggestion about selling it on ebay "as is". At least I can get rid of it.
