They've already named James Franklin as their next coach. For some reason they gave him a coach-in-waiting designation even though nobody was going after him. They have a different AD now though that may decide he doesn't want Franklin as head coach and decides to give Franklin a $1 million buyout rather than make him coach.

So Friedgen is definitely out? I thought I read that it would take something liek $4 mill just to buy out his contract.

If I were Maryland, I would make sure I get the right guy this time. There's no excuse for Maryland to be winning less than 8 games a season. Their location is perfect for recruiting.

The ACC kinda sucks these days. I think a lot of it is the mediocre conference. Most top-notch high school kids from the southeast these days wants to play in the SEC, which is the highest level of college football. But ya, even with the ACC in a funk Maryland really should be at least relevant. There's no excuse for not winning at least 8-9 games.

Friedgen isn't definitely out. Franklin's contract doesn't guarantee him the head coaching job until after the 2011 season. Honestly with Maryland's remaining schedule they should go at least 7-5 and I doubt they'd fire Friedgen with that record. Friedgen's buyout was $4 million after last season, I would think it'd be around $2 million after this season, and his contract expires after the 2011 season.

You have to think that Florida State, Miami, and Virginia Tech are going to finish strong, but besides them are there any good teams in the ACC? I don't see any.

Oklahoma is not happy about being ranked #1, probably because of that stat that only 10% of teams ranked #1 in the first BCS rankings even play in the championship game.

Yeah I'm sure we'll get some crappy bowl, but even then I'll take it ...

ACCs problem is they have so many coaches that got fat and comfortable with their jobs, nobody was getting fired and other then the fans there was no hot seat for most of the coaches, I mean look at Fulmer, he'd have been a life time coach is the ACC yet really 1 terrible season and he's out in the SEC, and until this conference gets back to wanting to win and demanding to win we'll be in the back of D1 football.

Maryland starting offensive lineman Pete DeSouza is out for the season after breaking both his leg when the motor scooter he was driving was hit by a car. This sounds a lot like when Iowa offensive lineman Josh Koeppel's moped was hit by a truck last month, but Koeppel walked away from the crash unharmed. DeSouza is expected to make a full recovery.

UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on his right knee Saturday. There is no timetable for his return.
It was a giant red flag that he underwent two MRI's this week and now we know why. He probably won't return this season and that put Richard Brehaut in charge of the pathetic Bruin passing game. On the bright side, we probably won't have to keep posting updates on Prince for awhile.

A lot of people thought Boise was greedy/crazy for wanting $1 million to play Nebraska. Clearly $1 million isn't too crazy because Alabama is paying Kent State $1.2 million to play them next season. Kent State has to pay a $425,000 buyout to Purdue since they had a contract to play them on the date of the Alabama game, but will still net $775,000 for the game.

Texas is getting worked 28-14 by Iowa St. in their own house. The same Iowa St. that lost their last two games by a combined 120-27.

Texas hasn't lost back to back home games since 1997, still not sure how they whomped Nebraska, that 20-13 score was misleading.
