I had no idea it was described as a western film noir! I think I'll get this one in the fall sale too then. I love James Stewart, but not a big western fan so I wasn't sure about it.

Hoping Criterion puts out The Man from London soon (ideally with The Outsider as a bonus feature).

My hero. Is there artwork inside?

I'm trying to get the database updated so that booklets/inserts/books are all listed as "film notes" or something of that sort. I'm sick of tracking down this information and correcting the database errors (some of which are provided by the reviewers themselves). I've even resorted to trying to find unboxing videos for some releases on TikTok to ensure accuracy. ()

As far as I'm concerned, if members want to get specific in the comments field about whether it's staple binding, foldable origami, an 80-page book bound with glue, pages wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper, or the like, that's on them. But "film notes" or something to that extent will get the job done.

They both have inner artwork. (Landscape for You Can Count on Me) and (Jack sitting naked in a chair with a TV next to him).

I can try and help where I can.

And they're really substantial too. You Can Count on Me has the entire original one-act play the film is based on.

I just found out that La Dolce Vita is OOP.

When did Criterion lose the rights?

I just sold my copy a few months ago.

…I feel sick.

I want to say it's been OOP since early 2021.

It's still available as part of the Essential Fellini set, and there's a Paramount release. That being said, it seems almost inevitable that the rights will return, the film will get a 4K UHD release, and the BD will also be re-released.

4K restoration premiering in theaters in August.

https://x.com/IndieWire/status/1948020275653521457

From Janus's site:

Quote:
This 4K restoration was carried out by TransPerfect Media from the original 35mm film negative and multi tracks. Color grading supervised by Caroline Champetier, sound by Thomas Guader. Project supervised by Sophie Boyer, Jean Pierre Boiget and the StudioCanal team. Digitization and restoration done with the support of the CNC and the participation of Theo Films.

I had no idea it had been OOP for so long.

If I did, I never would’ve sold it.

If you're region free, the UK Criterion is still available:

A few other western film noirs that I've watched and enjoyed are: "The Furies" with Barbara Stanwyck, Walter Huston, and Judith Anderson (this was also directed by Anthony Mann who did "Winchester '73"); "Forty Guns" also with Stanwyck, Barry Sullivan, and Dean Jagger (directed by Samuel Fuller); and "Pursued" with Robert Mitchum and Theresa Wright. The two Stanwyck films are with Criterion and "Pursued" was released by Olive and I think re-released by Kino.

If you only care about film/presentation, the new Paramount version is the same disc. You just don't get the extras or the leaflet.
