Yes there are different cost, and like Vilya says Server Farms but that comes out of different pockets. To me Streaming is looking better and better!
The cost of maintaining and operating server farms is a cost increasingly born by the studios directly as more of them open their own subscription streaming services. The costs associated with video on demand services affect the studios as well, both regular VOD and PVOD.

It will be a cold day in the ninth circle of hell before I pay $20 to rent a movie delivered by lower quality streaming.

Nothing about streaming looks better. It is still lower quality, conveys no real ownership, content can be removed or edited at any time, and it is dependent upon internet service.

It was a sunny day here today that is now transitioning to a clear cool evening. Comfortable temperatures and a light breeze. The only aggravation today was from my internet service provider; my service keeps going in and out. If I relied upon streaming to watch content, I wouldn't be seeing much of anything. Streaming doesn't look better; it remains the unreliable crapshoot that it always is here in this nation with our third world internet infrastructure.

This reminds me about a story at PacBell that you can never say something will never happen because change always comes. This smug First Level Manager always went by the book and didn't bend his policies for anyone not even for a Second Level Lady Manager that needed a favor from him. She said okay, but one day you may work for me. He said it will be a cold day in hell if I ever work for you. Well years later she walked into his office as his Supervisor, and said "Is it getting cold yet!"

"Second Level Lady Manager?" Really? Do you have any idea how sexist your description is? I had a Human Resources Director at Amtrak that would have skinned you alive for describing someone that way.

Unlike the mechanics of office politics determining who gets promoted, I am pretty sure that a retired person such as myself is immune to such concerns. I am also dead certain that how I spend my money on entertainment will forever remain my choice.

I was thinking how chauvinistic that story was also.
Judging how slow it is to get rid of twisted copper pair in lots of neighborhoods one could say change never comes via AT&T.

The Phone Company had different levels of management, male and female. It was like a ranking, when I retired I was a Second Level Service Manager. First Level was the entry level into management.....Don't get your stuff all in a bunch!

All companies have different levels of management; they do not typically specify gender in their job titles nor do they distinguish "Lady Managers" as separate and distinct from men; doing so implies that one is superior to the other based upon their gender. Did they delineate managers by race, too? A manager is a manager and they should be referred to by their name and their title, not by their gender. Had I referred to a manager as a "Lady Manager" at my job I would have had a disciplinary letter placed in my personnel file and I would have been required to attend corrective training. When did you retire again, 1996 or 1896?

The non-sexist way to have told your story would have been to say that a manager refused to assist a colleague who then replied that one day she may be his boss and he then retorted as he did. The way you told it makes you appear almost as chauvinistic as the manager that you were describing.

CEDIA Expo 2020 Cancelled; Virtual Experience Planned
Colorado Convention Center in Denver to be retained as a COVID-19 field hospital through the end of 2020, forcing cancellation of CEDIA Expo.

IFA Berlin is still a go.

Both of these shows is where the majority of product introductions and demos occur with our favorite hobby.

Everyone knows the correct way to refer to a female at work is “that fit bird”.

I think commercials is the future of steaming

I see ads before things on all my steaming services.

ATV+ (paid service) Ad before content
Prime (paid service) Ad before content
HBO Max (paid service) Ad before content

Are they all doing this now ... haven't checked my Hulu or Netflix

I went to IFA in 2012. It's where I saw the first 4K TV in it's full glory.

I'm still not so sure about that with Netflix. Apple and HBO MAX are doing it from the beginning. With Netflix it'll be harder to introduce if it wasn't there from the beginning.

I’m not so sure mate. I think it will happen. As long as they don’t place ads during a show I think people will put up with it. They might try the ads when viewers press pause so they see screensaver style ads until they resume viewing.

It's all possible of course, but if I had Netflix it would be a huge deal breaker for me.
Hard to guess how the average Netflix viewer would react to it.

There was a time when there were a lot of films that were coming out "straight to DVD". I learnt back then that if the director, studio....powers that be decided to go directly to plan B because the content sucks that they are most likely right. So I stopped caring to see and buying any content that the powers that be thought that people won't like. Don't get me wrong I am sure there can be an occasional gem in the $h!t pile , but it is just not worth it to watch hours of $h!t to find that one gem since that would be hours that I did not spend betting on better films that the powers that be believed in.

There's a distinction there. The "ads" are actually trailers for their own content. The only times you will see product ads is if you have the HULU with commercials plan and when you stream one of the free films on VUDU -- those usually give you 3 ads at a time and you cannot fast forward them. Netflix has no ads.

my guess the same way everyone reacts when something "bad" happens. Grumble about it for a few minutes and go on with their life. The same way people reacted when Netflix raised prices or introduced tiered packages (just to stay with discussion of Netflix)
