I'm so conflicted. On the one hand, I hate Steve Jobs, the minions who work for him and anyone extolling the virtues of Apple products, yet I'm still condering an iPad 2 for use with the Pioneer A/V receiver I plan to purchase.

Do what I did, do some research and decide which one you like best, tablets I mean. It always works for me.

That's the thing: I know that the features built into this year's Pioneer receivers are intended to work in harmony with Apple's products (i.e. iPad or iPhone), but I don't know if similar functionality is available if I were to use a different tablet, one that isn't Apple-based. I would be more than willing to consider something that's Android-based or even one that isn't (e.g. BlackBerry PlayBook, though Android app support may be coming later this year).

I've heard that the black one is better because if you watch a movie in a dark room, then the white color is distracting. I love the look of the white one though.

Sorry I'm not sure about that. I do not have a receiver. If you cannot find enough helpful info. you should probably get an iPad 2 just to be safe.

I'm not an Apple fan at all, but their iPad is very nice. Would I personally get one...no! It think it's too big and not portable enough...I may as well carry a laptop or netbook. It's pretty though!

I have been looking at Blackberry Playbook and I really like this tablet. Full 1080p video (playback AND recording)...2 cameras (3MP and 5MP), Micro SD, USB and HDMI slots....what's not to like!

I was inundated with Playbook commercials when I was in Ontario a couple of weeks back. Normally I'd be annoyed watching the same commercial over and over, but my reaction was actually the opposite. I'm anxious to get some hands-on time with one. In the short term, I plan to pick up a netbook (which is far more useful to me, as I need to put together spreadsheets), but I won't rule out the possibility of a tablet later on.

That's kinda where I'm at...my laptop is till going strong, and I think I view a "tablet" as a bit of a luxury or fun item. Once it dies or when I know it's about to, then I'll get serious. Next time you're up...check out BB or FS or any of the cell stores......demos are easily had.

This is my perception of tablets as well, i.e. a luxury item, rather than something of necessity. My preoccupation with tablets (especially the iPad 2) didn't happen until the 2011 lineup of Pioneer A/V receivers were unveiled. On the one hand, I like the integration of apps on mobile devices with home theatre components to increase or simplify functionality, but purchasing one is difficult to justify when the tablet costs more than the receiver. I think of the iPad 2 as a really nice but ridiculously expensive remote for the receiver.

I would still like to check out the Playbook. If I do buy an iPad, it would be anywhere but an official Apple store.

Ipads are highly addictive from what I see around me. One buddie of mine got his for X-Mas and carries it everywhere with him, I always bug him that he barely usus it except for web browsing, but we're surrounded by laptops and pcs. Then it always ends with Bejeweled

Mine is used primarily for web also infact I also never use my laptop for web anymore. Really other then a few things I have no need for my laptop.

I am also looking into a Playbook or the Evo View 4G because my fiancee steals my iPad all the time and instead of an iPad 2 I would rather something different for my second device( kind of third because I have a nook color also).

I'm already thinking about dinner tonight. The misses comes from an Italian family. She's cooking up some "from scratch" Italian today. Yum.
