Hey, all.

I've not been following this thread, so a question: Can I pre-order the U.K. Blu-ray set yet? Amazon or Zoom?

No. It's coming out next year.

I actually watched the series shortly before it came on Netflix and tried to buy the rebuild movies soon after, and was unable to find the first one at a decent price. It's never a good thing for discs to go OOP so I'm not sure I understand this "you snooze you lose" argument.
It's not you snooze you lose, it's just the realities of consuming anime in the west. Physical and Streaming anime is licenced and will eventually expire. I agree it sucks when things are oop, I've been trying to get Dead Alive Bluray for years at a reasonable price.

I'm not sure I understand what the 117 other countries line was for, I assumed he was talking about the original series on Netflix.

The first Rebuild just went out of print maybe a month ago. It was around for a full year after Netflix began streaming the series. Besides it isn't like Funimation has any say in the rights not being renewed, assuming that is what happened. They likely weren't given a choice.

Hmm, I've got the Funi BD of 1.11 somewhere. Don't need it anymore since I have the JP BD and my Japanese is much better than it was 10+ years ago, but pretty sure shipping from Japan to most countries is still by slow boat only.

For what it is worth, the HK blu-ray of 3.33 was OOS for quite a while (some months?), the company hadn't lost the right, just unforseen delay/did not reprint it soon enough. The same happened in France, etc.
Rather than theorizing on everything, just wait & see?

Believe me, the irony of the 1.11 movie going out of print before the fourth movie was ever released does not escape me...

Retailers have also been delisting it since April and RACS officially confirmed it as OOP/discontinued in June, 1.11 is not coming back.

That’s quite the definitive statement. Evangelion is one of the most popular anime franchises. 1.11 will return. In what form remains to be seen.

If the original is anything to go off of then 1.11 will be out of print for a decade or more.

I used to see used copies of 1.11 all the time. I guess all the collectors finally rounded them all up.

DVD copies were selling for $3 and $5 dollars on eBay up until about a month ago. Now they're non existent.

I don’t know if I would trust those sellers. I bought some games on Amazon from 3rd Party Sellers awhile ago that were dirt cheap for games that normally go for a lot more and have yet to receive them. I think the seller went MIA since Amazon tried to contact the seller and then told me no response.

There’s always the Mexican Zima Entertainment Trilogy boxset, 1.11 & 2.22 have the Funimation English dub and it’s Region A. 3.33 doesn’t have the English dub however only Spanish & Japanese.

I get the feeling Netflix will be it's next destination. If Netflix was willing to pick up the original and re-dub it, I see no reason why they wouldn't pick up the newer more flashy version.

That's the likely choice. I'm just not convinced that's what will happen. It doesn't really make sense for Netflix to license the earlier films for the simple fact that (up until recently) they've all been available on DVD and Blu-ray for years. Plus, if Funimation have really lost the license to 1.11, there are still two films in their possession for the foreseeable future.

Now I can definitely see Netflix jumping all over 3.0+1.0 once it's license is available, because a ton of people are gonna sign up so they can watch the final chapter to the Rebuild of Evangelion quadrilogy. I also think GKIDS and Shout Factory are worthy contenders at licensing the films too. Which I honestly would prefer.

I should clarify, I'm talking about when they're all available and release all 4 films at once. Which would be a few years I'm sure. Or release 3.0+1.0 and then the rest of the 3 later.

Fair enough. I've learned over the years that when it comes to anime, anything's possible.

Absolutely. The more I try to understand the business industry for anime, the more confused I get.

Would it not make sense for them to re-release the films, perhaps in a set, to coincide with the series release?
I can't think of a better marketing time.

Sorry, there I go again trying to make sense of Anime Producers...

I just hope Anime Ltd. will re-release the other Rebuild films like they did with 1.11.

I mean, they just recently picked up Children Who Chase Lost Voices and 5cm/s even if the Blu-ray release of 5cm/s from Manga UK was just very recent.
