thanks BD. do you think adding another hd10 will improve the bass? having one hd-10 feels kind of weak right now. i havent had the chance to do the crawl technique but i have the sub in the front near the right corner and it sounds good while playing transformer but i would like more bass. i only have room for the front left corner bc of limit space, my friend want to sell me his so im thinking of picking it up for a very good price. what do you think?

Yes, it will help. You will get more even bass across the room. You must position them properly and adjust their levels properly. Initially, you will get louder bass. Run the receiver's calibration program again after you have positioned them and adjusted their crossovers and levels on their backs.

The crossover is always turned all the way up. However, depending on the location of the sub in the room, one subwoofer may sound louder to you than the other. You need to lower the level on the back of the subwoofer that is louder. After this, run the calibration program. The program will take care of adjusting the combined level of both subwoofers with respect to the other speakers.

If you are buying a second subwoofer, I highly recommend that you also purchase an SPL meter. You need an SPL meter to measure the level of each subwoofer independently. The digital SPL meter at Radio Shack costs $50. If your local Radio Shack stores don't have it, you can order it from Radio Shack online.

Read A Guide to Bass Management. I gave you the link in my previous post. Also, there is a thread on Adjusting Your Audio with an SPL Meter. It has a sticky in the Receivers section.

You need one subwoofer cable, preferrably an RG6 cable with RCA connectors at both ends. You connect one end to the receiver's sub output (LFE out) and the other end to the back of subwoofer. Many subwoofers have two inputs on their back (left & right). On most subwoofer, you connect the cable to the left channel. On some subwoofers such as the Acoustic Audio subwoofer, if you get a Y adapter (2 male, 1 female) and connect the sub cable to both the left and right inputs on the back of the subwoofer, you will get 3dB to 6 dB of additional output.

Monoprice.com sells excellent sub cables at very low prices. Make sure you buy a sub cable that is at least 12 ft or higher. You need to experiment with the position of the subwoofer in the room to get the best bass output.

I asked this elsewhere, but just to keep myself on-topic...

I have a Polk PSW10 right now. I'm in the midst of replacing all of my other speakers and upgrading, so I'm considering a sub upgrade also.

Is the AA PSW-12 a much better sub than the Polk? I saw on the Deep Discount web site that BD linked to that it's only $148??? Seems like a great price, given the fact that I could probably sell my PSW10 on Craigslist for nearly the same.

Worth the trade?

Edit: Also, pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between the PSW, RW, and HD series?

The HD subs are front firing, have more powerful amplifier, have Auto On switch, and come in three colors (black, cherry, & maple). The HD subs are available in 10", 12", and 15".

The PSW and RW series are black only, down-firing, less powerfull amps, and no Auto On switch. They come in 8" up to 15" models.

Thanks for the info, BD!

They're out of stock on the 12", but I picked up a 10" HD sub from their eBay store for a GREAT price thanks to "make an offer." It almost feels like stealing.

Meanwhile, I just sold my Polk PSW10 on Craigslist for $120, so I am nearly at break-even.

They are almost out of all models. It may take several weeks for them to re-stock the subs again.

Make sure you register it immediately for warranty. You only have 10 days. The link is given in Post #1.

Will do, thanks!

Currently I'm reading your post on DIY sub risers. Might be up for a Home Depot visit tomorrow.

Default Hd-15

Hi,
I am new here but have been a lurker for a few years now. I just had to chime in on this thread. I scored the HD-15 for $42 because it had a scuff on it. I received the sub today and cannot believe I got this sub for that price. I am trying to integrate it into my HT setup with a 2 ps212. They sound great but I believe this sub will add the thunder lol.

Wow man...who did you get the sub from? That's an incredible price!

If you don't have a SPL meter you need to invest in one to integrate your system with your new sub.

How did you find out about this "scratch and dent'' sub? You're the first I've seen on here to score one like this.

What color is it? What other speakers do you have? Definitely take a couple of pictures and shows the flaws. At that price, I don't mind buying a few hundred of them.
