$3500 on a 5.0 of bookshelf speakers... I mean, I know Dyns are the ultimate in speaker manufacturing... but sh!t, I could get totem rainmakers, rainmaker center and mites for less then $2700, and I am sure the fall off isn't that far in mid-range detail.... with the sttafs and the excites, i couldn't tell a difference in detail... just tone. However, the Dyns WERE NOT fully broke in.. they still sounded Dark... the dealer told me they needed about 200 more hours on them.... yes, they need 300 hrs of break-in the 5" drivers have 3" magnets and dual coils..... that is why they are hard to drive. Their 8" drivers have 4" magnets... OMG! That is bigger then the average subwoofer magnet on a 12" sub....
Yup the voice coil is 3 inches on 5.5 inch Dynaudio driver the voice coil is 2 inches on my 10 inch Energy sub so imagine Model One Sig also becomes hard to break in as it uses the same driver as the Focus 110 but modified, Totem recommends 200 hours like Dynaudio and it's not a coincidence it's really that Dynaudio driver that is hard to break in.

Look if you loved the Staff you will like the Rainmaker as well, I swear really I was not disapointed at all. Make sure you listen to them in a proper room.

I've been going to a used bookstore just down the street from my apartment lately for CDs. They have a big selection and, for the most part, good prices. Everything is guaranteed for a week, so if it won't play you can return it without any hassle. They even have a clearance section and all CDs are just a buck. A lot of older stuff, but I've been building my collection pretty quickly thanks to them. I purchased Depeche Mode's Violater and Five for Fighting's The Battle for Everything yesterday...$2+tax.

Look this taken from the Totem Website and I don't doubt this statement one bit.

"The Rainmaker will exceed the expectations of those dubious as to its ability to perform well in various musical and AV environments. "

I know exactly how you feel. You guys helped me through this in the last few weeks and I sure appreciate it. I don't have thousands to spend on speakers so I needed one of those "best bang for the buck" deals and you guys sure helped me out. Over time it will work out to a nice set up with the RC's I think.
My problem was not being able to audition all these different speakers. The only brands I have around here are Bose, Klipsch, and Polk, so it makes it hard. I made a blind buy on the Energy, but I'm very satisfied.

By the way I got email back from Toshiba. They asked me if I'm using High Speed HDMI. I wrote them back and asked what the difference was. I thought all these HDMI cables were basically the same. I'm using some Phillips cables I bought at Wal Mart for 20 something bucks. I wonder if that's my problem.

If you guys were to build a new system from scratch would you go

A) 3x RC-LCR - 4x RC - R (7.1)
B) 2x RC 70 - 1x RC-LCR - 2x RC-R (5.1)

The tower won't be used to their potential being crossed over at 80hz. (have 2 subs already)

The RC-LCR and the RC-R all have identical 5.5 woofers.

What would you do? Get the best towers they have or get the identical 7.1 system.

99.9% movies

If you have 2 subs, good ones I presume, and its 99% movies, then I would honestly say get the RC-30s, RC-LCR, RC-R setup.

even if you get into 2-channel music at some point the RC-30s would be good to use without a sub.

What is your budget?

What do you have now?

that is because toshiba doesn't do firmware updates.... they are side-stepping the actual issue.

Most HDMI cables will do just fine...

I got tired of emailing back and forth and just called to talk to someone. They are telling me I need to do 2 things. I should use a high speed HDMI, which is no big deal. I just checked monoprice and will purchase this http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 for 4 bucks. They also told me I need to get a 1G SD card to put in the SD slot on the front of the player. Apparently it needs more memory. I'm going to do that and see if it helps.

They said they had a firmware update but not for that issue.

Here are the 2 deals going on right now. the first is the RC-50s and the other is the RC-30s.... if you think you may want to get into 2-channel at some point, the RC-50s would be an awesome investment.... actually,.... they may make you want to listen to more music.

that is strange, because with both my panasonics and my sony BDP I have had either of those issues....

try it and hopefully it works out....

have you auto calibrated your system since you added the new speakers? Did you ever have this issue before?

If the system will be used primarily for movies (as you indicated it will), I would get option 1. The RC-LCR is a great performer and you'll have an identical front soundstage, which is ideal.

Is your room large enough to set up a 7.1 system in?

It's a local chain, so no luck for you in California. I'd look around though, I would imagine there is some sort of store near you.

Oh yea, I've always had the black screen, freezing, and audio/video sync issues, even before my new speakers. I just never really sought out a solution until now. I just kind of lived with it until I finally got fed up. LOL
