Spectacular. Really love the design.

The artwork isn't bad but you should ask him why he chose the wrong Godzilla design for the covers? That seems like a pretty bad mistake to make, seeing as this is the Showa box set rather than the Heisei. A bit of research would have revealed to him that the Showa designs were very different from the Heisei ones. It would be like making the cover for the Sean Connery James Bond movies but using Timothy Dalton.
This coming from someone who thinks the Heisei Godzilla design is by and far the best Godzilla design ever.

I have a feeling Criterion was trying to put out a complete set (including Heisei and Millenium films), which might explain all the anochronisms on the cover and disc fold. They probably comissioned artists with that in mind and when whatever pending deal fell through with Sony, they figured they'd keep the artwork they had already paid for.

That's all total speculation on my part, but seems likely.

Or they just told the artists to go bananas, haha

I'm guessing they just asked an artist to do a Godzilla cover. Whoever that was did just that, didn't do any research. For most people Godzilla is just Godzilla, there is no real difference. But when you're hired to do the covers for a Showa Godzilla set and you can't even do the bare minimum of research, it looks pretty lazy. I know i'd never hire this guy to do one of my movie poster after this, knowing he couldn't even be bothered to do a 5 minutes search on google.

Gee, I had no idea there were two Godzillas.

So the Showa one has a skinnier neck?

Not sure what happened, but I may ask him if the time is right. He is a professional comic book artist. Perhaps he wasn't told which specific Godzilla he was designing for.

Buy two sets.

If you read the previous page, you'd see that Justanothercrow421 already came up with that solution and made some wonderful two sets custom artwork...

I have less issue with the artwork, it's mostly my dislike of the packaging. A giant book, which is not shelf friendly even for most bookshelves, and lack of disk hubs (I hate packaging where the disk is forced up against a surface), is really disappointing.

Glad Justanothercrow421 posted a couple great images to use for custom cases so I can store the Godzilla "book" in a closet.

Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954-1975 (Part I)

Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954-1975 (Part II)

The only thing not 100% accurate is the actual barcode (which is actually of Criterion's original Godzilla release) The barcode will be updated closer to release. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, you're all set.

It sucks the color and sharpness out of the images to a significant degree when you take a close look, especially the textual elements. I could upload the original images to my FTP if you like and provide you with updated URL's to use. Just let me know. And great job by the way. Cheers.

What You’ll Need:

· Printer (laser or inkjet, but for this, I recommend laser for the finest quality and easiest handling)
· 8.5” x 14” US Legal paper, either 28 or 30lb varieties with a brightness of at least 100
· Two Scanavo 4-Disc Clear Blu-ray cases with 22mm spine
· Straight edge cutting tool
