I feel the same way.

More for music that I love.

It's very satisfying.

Report: Brits Want Their SVOD for Free - MediaPlayNews 6/4/20

Quote:
British rock band Dire Straits famous 1985 song, “Money for Nothing” mocks pretty boys getting “their chicks for free.” New data from tech company The Trade Desk suggests British consumers love subscription video-on-demand — they just don’t want to pay for it.

In a recent survey, 70% of respondents said they wouldn’t spend more than £20 monthly ($25) on streaming services, a decline of £5 ($6.26) compared to a separate survey in September 2019. The research company contends the change in consumer attitude could result in a revenue loss of approaching £100 million ($125 million).
Well thats not exactly helpful for streaming taking over!

Ampere: U.S. Streaming Households Up OTT Video Services 27%

Quote:
As expected, the number of over-the-top video services in domestic homes increased 27% in the first quarter, ended March 31, according to new data from Ampere Analysis. The London-based research firm said U.S. streaming households subscribed to 3.3 services in the period compared to 2.6 services in the previous-year period.

The report said domestic streaming households are paying on average $34 monthly to stream video, compared to $30 monthly in the previous-year period.

“The increase is driven primarily by the launch of Disney+ in November, with some additional growth from Apple TV+,” analyst Toby Holleran said in a statement. “The [$9.99] Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ bundle has also proven successful; we expect around 10-15% of Hulu subscribers to be taking the three-service bundle.”

Holleran expects the average to increase to four per households with the arrival of HBO Max and Quibi.

Hope for ‘Tenet?’: NATO Expects 90 Percent of Global Theaters to Open by Mid-July

Quote:
There’s renewed optimism that Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet will maintain its original release date on July 17 in the wake of a new report stating that the National Association of Theatre Owners expects 90% of the global theatrical marketplace to be open by mid-July.

The surprisingly high figure comes from Business Insider, which cites a representative for NATO, the organization that represents movie theaters across America. Of course, if the figure is 90%, it’s unclear what the other 10% represents. Could that 10% consists of major theaters in Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Chicago? Because if those cities do make up that 10%, I have a hard time believing that Warner Bros. will release Tenet in the other 90% of theaters. I think it has to be all or nothing on this one, because Nolan fanboys in those major cities will not be happy with Warner Bros., and frankly, studios aren’t in a position to alienate loyal customers right now.

Surveys are about as much use as chocolate fire guards.

Maybe some of those people already pay for cable or satellite tv? Sky in the UK had 10 million customers last time I checked.

Regardless, let’s say that’s factual (lol).

That means 2 streaming services, probably Netflix and Disney. Im not sure people include Amazon Instant video because it’s part of Amazon Prime subscription.

It looks to me that that survey is presuming AVOD is desired and in my opinion seems to be pushing in that direction. Even the headline is misleading. Pushing £20 per month is not wanting stuff for free.

There are already a few variables to consider with this survey. It’s a load of bollocks imo.

I believe steaming is all about being cheap first and foremost.

Many things on the internet seem free. I've never done a trial of YouTube or paid for YouTube but apparently that's a thing people do because Youtube keeps asking me if I want to. I've never paid anything for Pokemon Go and I don't remember ads either... Apparently it makes big money and like the game itself, I don't understand it.

Things have to be cheap or free for most people .. maybe because they don't have a lot of money they consider extra.

I hate the expression "you get what you pay for" because in fact sometimes there are good deals and more often bad deals (rip offs).

I like collecting movies. I like the process of discovering something and acquiring it and having it to revisit at will... most people don't or as long as there's several new things to sample they are happy with that.

-Brian

No that was not what was implied.

Exactly, people want even cheaper subscriptions. You stay home and surf the internet and find lots of free stuff such as what on YouTube and like offer. Thats enough to keep entertained.

Historically the internet was free, not this shenanigans of multiple streaming hosts parsing up what you can watch each wanting a pretty penny.

It absolutely is. Even the headline implies people want stuff for free. It then leads into a mention for AVOD. You must see the intention of that article?

Besides, I don’t see what point you are making. I have insisted for years that AVOD is going to explode. It hasn’t happened yet but it absolutely will.

Reading it again its a cleverly marketing news byte from a company trying to promote their ad software. But when they survey people and they are really interesting in spending less with SVOD the mention of ViacomCBS won't light any gotta have it fires. Over here in the states people would rather spend only so much and that is not encompassing ads. Disneys not doing it, Netflix is not doing it.

Yep, that’s exactly what it is.

Netflix and Disney might not have any choice. Let’s see anyway. I’m certain those two services will have ads in the future. Even if it’s two different offerings, one with and one without.

Yep. Even if folk go to grab a snack, they see the paused image for a second and they see it when they come back. Grab that viewer’s attention with a bold, well designed ad and $$$$$$$$$$$. Add a few static ads before a show starts and you have a pretty unobtrusive system.

I hate ads. I"m out of streaming and more and more off line in general because news and current events are so disgusting that I don't feel the need to participate in most of it... my kids can have the steaming. I'm glad that movies I buy come with the online version I can share with them... I'm collecting movies. I'm also at least middle aged so exactly how I spend my time may not matter as much because I'm not part of whatever current wave is going through the youth mind.

I've never watched much TV apart from using it to get to actual original content. Where I live I get no Over the Air reception at all. My parents will watch movies they own on disc on TV with commercials, cropped, edited, and censored because that's just life.

Even if they stop making physical media I have arrived at 2000 movies I find enjoyable to revisit including Jaws, James Bond, ET, Star Wars, LotR, Game of Thrones, .... there's too much of what I want and have for me to endure ads for something that may be worth while.

Same here, I wont watch a movie on tv unless it’s BBC or Sky.

Though I have a large collection of DVDs and BDs I occasionally watch OTA which offers excellent HD where I live. Ad comes on, I either getup and do something or just sit through it. I also watch PBS which only shows ads right before the program starts.

AVOD can be hit or miss. Some show 1 or 2 ads with more frequent ad breaks while others show up to 5 ads but less frequent ad breaks. I don't watch too many movies on S/AVOD. Mainly TV shows. Some free apps show movies in OAR while others don't. They convert 2.39 to 1.78. Those I don't watch.

Variety is still the spice of life to me. Always has been, always will be.
