Or I think that's how it goes. We should write to Vudu and have them take it away... That would be kind of funny.

I don't know what an IPTV server is. I know IPTV as a concept but I don't know what an IPTV server is... I may have to look that up.

Talk about easily triggered snowflakes, amirite?
Adding a simple disclaimer like the one that I posted does not bother me. It should be super easy and very quick to add such a disclaimer before the start of the film. Replace the word "cartoon" with "movie" and the warning that precedes their old cartoons would be adequate.

Many discs already have disclaimers making certain that I do not ascribe the opinions expressed in the extra features as those of the studio itself. One more disclaimer won't upset me.

I think it is silly that they have to pull the film to add a "historical context discussion", whatever the hell that even means, as if there is any discussion to be had here. It will likely be an introductory lecture from someone(s) involving no input from the viewer.

A warning that a movie may contain something that could offend me is not really anything new after all; the rating system has been doing that for decades. What I do not need is "training" or "instruction" before I watch a movie.

This plan where they are going to denounce parts of the movie just seems so very wrong.
What's the difference, though?

Is there really any difference between saying X, Y or Z don't necessarily reflect our views and saying X, Y or Z definitely don't reflect our views?

Is there a point that you can't miss entirely?

I own the blu-ray AND the digital copy, so I guess that means that I should doubly not care? The old "I have mine, screw you" sentiment applies, apparently.

This underscores that any digital title can be removed from any streaming service or digital provider without any advance warning for any reason and for whatever length of time that they want.

Adding a simple disclaimer should not necessitate removing the movie, but it looks like HBO feels that viewers need actual educating before watching this movie.

I think this is more posturing by AT&T, their owners. They don't want to be seen as bad guys. Its a bit late but they still keep trying.

I even enjoyed Unsane which if I hadn't been told it was shot on an iPhone I would have never known. As long as they preserve the cinematic presentation in all regards and present a compelling story I really don't care what technology was used. With that being said, I will never watch vertically framed content unless the decision to do so was a creative one that serves the story in some fundamental way.
Cloverfield was certainly a different type of found footage film, but a highly effective one if you could deal with the shaky cam effect.

I agree, streaming movies should have a disclaimer stating there is a brief shot of a man's penis, then proceed with a short lecture on sex education or a disclaimer stating John Wick has dispensed with more than 2 dozen people (supposedly, they were all bad) then proceed with a short lecture on how to avoid being shot or .....

That one got ejected after several minutes. Glad to have disc by mail, bad movie eject and move on to next one. Speaking of camera work, have you watched 1917? IMHO, Roger Deakins really deserved his Oscar® win for this one.

My point is that adding a simple disclaimer like the one that precedes some of the old Warner Bros. cartoons is sufficient and doing so should not require the removal of the film.

It appears that HBOMax feels that a mere disclaimer isn't enough with Gone With The Wind; it appears that they intend to create some kind of introductory lecture to preface this film...and likely a mandatory one at that. It will sure get old to have to be "educated" each time someone wants to see this movie if that is the case.

Preach. 1917 was one of those discs that justifies having the rooms and setups we do. Although some people hated 1917 and didn’t think of is as a war movie, I thought it was simply magic. It is amazing some of the opinions shared on this forum. I am up for a good debate, and have changed my stance and belief on several occasions based on intelligently thought out and presented facts. But like Ender14 has shared, some people are just trying to get a rise out of others, and that addlepated mindset needs to go away as it does not move any conversation forward, it only serves to rehash old nonsensical dialogue without any desire or ability to change.

The Gone With The Wind brouhaha is just another example of a large company's knee-jerk reaction to current events.

BTW, Paramount just cancelled their very successful 30 year run of the TV show COPS. See above.

Nothing is more frightening to these large public media companies than bad publicity.

I'm not exactly pulling out my hair, but if one is going to enjoy a hot button topic one has to act fast before it cools off. Controversy is best served piping hot.

Well, the Gone With The Wind thread just got closed down...for how long remains to be seen. The thread should've come with a disclaimer.

57 posts have been removed.

even more concerning is the writer of "12 years a slave" wants his OWN film pulled. the movie is a moving account of the horrors of that time period.

"John Ridley, pictured with his Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, in 2014. Ridley said HBO should consider removing the film from its offering, describing it as a film which only serves to 'perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color"

Uh huh

He has probably seen all the attention (and sales) that this has generated for Gone With The Wind and hopes to do the same for his own movie.

If Mr. Ridley is really offended by his movie, and thinks that it should be removed, he could demonstrate his convictions by donating all of the money that he made from the movie to charities that address racism...but I doubt somehow that he is that committed to his recently found principles. If he truly wants his movie removed, then he should also not want to personally profit from a film that "perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color."

Maybe he should return that Oscar, too? Accepting an award for making a movie that perpetuates racial stereotypes must weigh heavily on his conscience.
