If it didn't award gear I guess I could see doing it like a CoD or Battlefield - but it seems like that would be open for serious abuse. In traditional FPS you don't get any long term benefits that would push you above your opponents do you? (I mean you may access perks and loadouts, but you don't actually get guns for winning that do more damage right?)

Edit - I guess it would have made better sense for there to be "non-ranked/trophy" private match options where you could play in the equivalent of a private match without being able to abuse it. Seems like it wouldn't have been too hard to do and probably we have lessened the frustration of more pure FPS players like yourself.
That's exactly what The Last of Us does doesn't it? You don't get rewarded with anything for doing private matches in it do you?

If Bungie is truly making this game a 10 year commitment, I have some suggestions for them to expand this game and add new gameplay elements...

1.) Sparrow Racing. This would be a damn fun side quest!

2.) Space combat. Come on Bungie. You have to give a better reason to buy new ships other than to have something new to look at during loading screens.

3.) Hunting. One of my biggest complaints with Destiny is it's lack of wildlife. I'd love to have an obective where you have to track and hunt some kind of wild animal.

4.) More exploration. More caves, catacombs, temple ruins, etc to explore and uncover treasures.

5.) Private PVP matches!

I played 2 crucible matches today for the first time since the Beta. I guess I improved a little bit even though I am still n the bottom of the team, I managed to get some kills in.

So I guess it's a matter of practice. Gonna try hit at least a couple matches in all the categories.

I love the Destiny companion app. Keeps me sane on these long work days away from the game. I only wish you could buy items from vendors using the app.

Hmmm, a random thought for myself: I thought I had picked an 'orange' color for my hunter's robotic head, but I noticed the palette choice more resembled a brown. Maybe it's just a fancy orange that is actually brown, and maybe thats why my clothing is so dull and blank and don't have much vibrancy coming through? Hmmmmmm...

You Titans and Warlocks: Did your initial selections effect your early clothing at all?

You Hunters who picked a bright color: Does a bright yellow or deep red give you highlights on your clothing?

Nope, they will just keep respawning. I've actually had repeat missions a few times now on Earth.

Guys, is this game recommended for a person who has never played an MMO, and who prefers games with awesome single-player campaigns ? This person would be me ... I always buy games based on their single-player experience, and all online interactions are secondary to me .. I do play online, but I treat it as just an 'add-on' to the main single-player game .. I think Destiny doesn't fall in this category from what I've read .. I also don't have any real world friends who are also gamers (I do have friends, but none are gamers), so any folks I'll form a clan with will most likely be random dudes ... Should I buy into the hype and get this or wait for a price drop ?

I'm loving the steelbook in the limited edition but its $99 which I can spend to buy 1-2 kimchi's instead too ... So need some advice ..

To sum up this game, it's a First Person Shooter first, with RPG and MMO elements built into it. You HAVE to be connected online for this game to work, but you can do a bunch of this game solo. While that's said, it will definitely help to team up with at least 2 other players because a bunch of the missions (obviously not including competitive multiplayer) requires teammates. When you do Strikes, you can either have 2 friends with you, or the game will team you up with 2 random people. In raids, I'm not sure if you have to have 5 of your friends with you as a team going into it, or if the game can join you up with 5 other random people. So long story short, you can play this game by yourself, but you won't get the full experience.

I'm just like you where I play a game for the single-player campaign first, and look at the competitive multiplayer stuff as secondary. I bought the $100 Limited Edition and love it. The best part about this game is the grinding and leveling up to make your Guardian stronger, more powerful, and better looking. It's a fun FPS with some RPG and MMO elements thrown in there to please a lot of different game fans. I hope this helps.

It sounds like this game isn't for you. It is primarily a multiplayer game.
