I'm looking at a watch online that costs $39,000. After I clean out my savings and put up as much as I can, if someone can cover the rest, that would be SO EFFING AMAZING!!!!! If so, I would only need $39,000. Thank you.

$39,000.00, huh?

For that much, it better do more than just tell me the time. It better help me make time and/or travel through time.

Yeah, I don't even remember what website I was looking at. Back in 2020, when I got into watches, I was at Neiman Marcus one day and this nice, knowledgeable lady was showing me some watches. One of the watches that caught my eye was from Breguet. I didn't know at the time that I was looking at a $28,000 watch but what I thought was funny was that this woman thought I looked like the kind of guy that could afford a $28,000 watch

This isn't the watch that I saw in stores and it's not the one that I was looking at earlier today, but I think this is the same watch in a different color than the blue dial that I saw back in 2020.

Also, and I know many famous people have worn and used all kinds of products from different companies but apparently Napoleon and Marie Antoinette had Breguet timepieces.

How many watches do you have now? How much have you spent on your collection so far? What are the most and least amounts you have spent on your watches?

Sorry for the barrage of questions. Reading your posts about collecting watches has made me curious.

I know watches are a fashion statement but personally, I have not worn a watch in a long time. I think the last watch I wore regularly was a G-Shock which cost like $100-something. The most expensive watch I own is a Movado Fiero I received as a gift. It is made from tungsten carbide and is insanely durable. It still looks brand new to this day after all the abuse I put it through.

Since I have owned a mobile phone I stopped wearing them. Nowadays, I look at my phone countless times all day so I never felt the need to wear one. It’s interesting seeing different perspectives.

I don't mind all the questions and in fact, I'm going to go into more detail than you could have imagined

I had worn watches when I was younger but it had been awhile since I last got and wore one. In late 2019, I decided that I should get a new watch so I was going to go down to the department store (Macy's) like I always do. I figured I would just get the $75+ Fossil or Relic like I had in the past. Well Macy's website has an incredible selection and I found so many that I thought looked good. I was going purely on aesthetics. So my max budget went from $100 to $500 and then $750. Without too much trouble, I ended up choosing a Bulova which I got on sale and then with promo code on top of it for $300 something. It's Saturday evening at like 11:40pm back in January 2020 when I place my order. I've got the counter on top of the page counting down the 20 minutes til midnight when the promo code expires.

Well less than 24 hours later, without even getting a shipping notice for the first watch, I'm back on Macy's site looking for my next watch. I ended up getting eight watches in five months. I'm not sure how much I spent in total but all eight of those watches (with an additional watch for a friend) were purchased at pretty good sale prices. I'll tell you quick stories about two of them.

One is a Mido that I was looking at. I'm at my friend's restaurant and he's on the phone and I think he said sales but it sounded like Zales. That made me get on their site and I see that they have this $1,010 watch on sale for half off. I add it to the cart and to my surprise, it's now dropped to $404. Apparently I saved another 20%.

My most expensive watch was a Raymond Weil for like $2,095 MSRP. During one weekend, Macy's had another one of their promo codes and the watch was on sale for 25% off. I'm going back and forth and I ended up not pulling the trigger. So the next day, I'm on the light rail and I pull out my iPad to see if that promo is still active. Well to my very pleasant surprise, that particular watch (with a few other RWs) was now 50% off so I got it for a much better price.

I recently got a Hamilton watch that was the first one I paid full retail for. All good though as I like it. My biggest savings came just recently at AAFES. It's an exchange site for Veterans and their dependents. What is really awesome about this site and others like it is that besides sometimes having already discounted prices, they run sales and then there is no sales tax just like an exchange on base. Also, they are authorized dealers (AD) for the watch brands they carry so I get the full manufacturer warranty.
Here's what I saved on three watches I bought recently
Tissot - MSRP: $685, Paid $447.20
Longines - MSRP: $1,675, Paid $1,140
Longines - MSRP: $2,250, Paid $1,532
So I ended up saving about $2,000.

And then from one other exchange site, I bought my first Seiko and saved about $200. So I bought eight watches in five months back in 2020 but then didn't buy another one after May. Now since February, I've bought five new watches. smh lol

As for the phone, it's understandable that people wouldn't use a watch to tell the time anymore. We simply don't need them. Some people will prefer smart watches because they can do so much and that's understandable. I'm betting that if it wasn't for the clock in the classroom, kids these days wouldn't even be able to tell time unless looking at a digital clock/watch.
But when it comes to the ease of checking time, and a lot of times it's about just that, it's easier for me to raise and slightly turn my arm than it is to dig my phone out of my pocket

Hey, man. Thank you for that. I appreciate you taking the time to write all of that.

Clearly, you've got a real passion for watches

When I first saw your posts about collecting watches, I didn't "get it". And you know what? Part of me still doesn't but it brings you joy so that's what matters.

Eight watches in 2020 and now another five, that's 13 watches. Your watch collection is worth more than my entire wardrobe. My god, I'm thinking about it as I type this and your collection is probably worth more than half of my Honda when I bought it new. That's impressive. LOL

Looking at some watches online right before I slept and they definitely look cool. Personally, I prefer watches that are not "busy". I like just the part that tells time. I don't like the numbers which tell you what day it is or any other hands on the clock to tell the seconds or months or whatever. I just want the face with bars in place of numbers and two hands to tell the time. That's it. Colors are the bonus I would choose.

Thanks again, dude. I hope you enjoy the hell out of your new watches and keep us posted about new acquisitions!

You're welcome. I was on the computer and type quite fast so my fingers were flying about as fast as my mind

I haven't thought about how much I have spent on the collection but I guess if you were to look at the retail value, there is a bit of money there. I have no intention of ever selling any of the watches so I'm not concerned with the immediate depreciation.

When I was searching in 2020, I came to realize that I'm not so big on the chronographs with all of the subdials and the other pushers around the crown. But looking at some online or even in the store, I can see why people like them. I do prefer clean dials but I do like something with a date and even with the day of the week.

I'll share a pic of some other watches that I have my eye on. I listed the prices for myself. I would of course try and find them for as cheap as possible without buying used or grey market. Just saying that just because I may post a $2,500+ watch, doesn't mean that I'm at all interested in spending that much. And with the watches in the picture, I certainly won't buy all of them and I may never even buy any of them but I'd like to acquire a few.

What's y'alls opinions on Movado watches? They're known for not having hour marks on most of their watches.

They look high-end, but I bet half of the people wearing them if you were to ask them the time they wouldn't know either.

I have a Movado Fiero. The band and watch are made of tungsten carbide. I’ve worn it into the gym before and not one scratch ever happened. I bet my watch actually scratched the weights. LOL

Til today, it still looks like the day I first got it.

Are you thinking about getting one?

That's gonna be a no from me dawg. I always thought they were a little too niche, for lack of a better term. They look pretty nice though and if it weren't for the missing hour marks (on most of them) then I'd consider it.

I was doing my taxes via TurboTax and got super frustrated (capital loss carryover with California state adjustments), so to blow off steam I hightailed it over to the ol' AMC and used up a free ticket, popcorn, and soda to see Jackass Forever.

That movie is the perfect distraction. Now I feel right as rain.

Making progress in Sekiro. I had to watch walkthrough vids for a couple of areas, but that’s okay. This game is testing my reflexes like no other game.

There’s a small herd of caribou beside the camp that I stay at. I took this pic yesterday before work and they’re still there this morning.

a friend asked me if I'd like to become roommates and get a place (I can't afford a place on my own at the moment) ~ I'm seriously thinking about it, my current address is triggering a lot of memories and all, and I just need to vacate it for my emotional sanity.

Just did my taxes this morning. I sold too much stock/crypto last year (and didn't pay tax on it at the time) so now I owe about $700 instead of getting a refund.

The tax man is going to take a bite out of me next year when I have to start reporting earnings from Ebay sales. I've never owed the IRS money but I will next year
