Really curious how the theaters are going to enforce wearing masks in a dark theater. I am all for the idea, but considering I often see people wearing them improperly or not wearing them at all, the idea that everyone is going to wear a mask correctly while watching a movie is pretty optimistic to me.

I guess you really don't care, people have to police themselves. The wearing of a mask is not only to protect yourself, but also for people that you might infect. The only way we are going to defeat this virus is to protect ourselves and the people around us.

Night vision. I think the light on attending movie goers from looking backwards from the screen is enough to see people without masks.

There is nothing in gotmule's post that suggests that he does not care. He is simply skeptical about the audience complying with the mask requirement.

In my state, Illinois, theaters remain closed and the wearing of masks in public is required. However, this requirement is not being enforced by anyone. Not by law enforcement and not by store staff. When I make my weekly shopping trips I have noticed that only about 60% of people are obeying the requirement to wear a mask and I have never seen anyone confronted for their non-compliance nor is anyone being refused service.

So while I care enough to wear the required mask, much of the public does not.

It looks like the last of the three Gone With The Wind threads have been deleted.

Some of our forum members apparently are incapable of discussing the controversy around HBO Max's decision to pull the movie from their streaming service (until such time as they can add that "historical context discussion") without digressing into politics and then, of course, to insulting each other.

Here in the UK, Sky have announced they were adding a disclaimer with their movies saying that the film contains "outdated attitudes, languages and cultural depictions which may cause offence today".

According to an online rag, so far there are 16 films affected which include 'Dumbo', 'Gone With The Wind', 'Lawrence Of Arabia', 'The Jungle Book', 'Aladdin', 'Flash Gordon', 'The Last Samurai', 'Aliens', etc.

Aliens caught my eye - what could possibly be offensive in that, I asked myself? Apparently the reason was because: "Aliens features a non-Hispanic actress playing the role of an Hispanic character".

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...attitudes.html

I swear the world is getting crazier by the minute!

I was expecting this to happen. A bunch of knee jerkers responding to a bunch of snowflakes. I mean, Aliens for goodness sake! I’m so happy I have my Boxset.

Next will be westerns with non Indian actors portraying native Americans. That’s a few thousand right there. Don’t be surprised if certain ‘movements’ campaign for the removal of all films where actors are portraying characters of different nationalities.

This is the world of social media and digital/streaming. A marriage made in hell.

It’s impossible to discuss anyway Vilya, the context is always going to lead to bans or thread locks. How can you discuss it without delving into ‘controversial’ areas?

Too right mate. As it happens, I stopped subscribing to Sky Movies quite a while back now (I only have Sky for the sport), but like yourself I've got all the films I love on blu-ray anyway.

With regards to Aliens, honestly, at first I thought it was a joke. I was thinking perhaps some "spokesperson" representing extra-terrestrial life had made an official complaint demanding to know why aliens are always portrayed as the villains!

Wouldn’t surprise me!
We really need someone with balls making decisions. They have opened the floodgates and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see slasher films banned for violence against woman next. Give it 10 years and we might not have many catalogue films left. New films will have to tick certain boxes just to be made. It’s a slippery slope.

It is Steedeel, I have to agree. The problem with these snowflake do-gooders is they're never happy. You give them an inch, and they'll want a mile, just like those idiots who want to pull down statues and erase history.

You could well be right about future film productions. I can see studio executives being perhaps less keen to sign cheques and give the go-ahead to productions that are not deemed to be "suitable".

I am really not sure how you interpreted that I don’t care from my post. I wear a mask every time I walk into a store and am required to wear one at work as I manage a retail store. My store is in a mall, so I get to see a pretty good cross section of what is going on in St Louis. Everyday, I see a wide range of age brackets that are not wearing masks including those in high risk categories. A conservative estimate is about half of the people walking around are wearing one, and out of the group that is wearing one, several don’t have it covering their nose or that wear it like a chin strap.

Most of my day, I am engaging customers outside of the store as we have occupancy limits, and when I bring up the requirement of masks, I get all kinds of push back. Some of these conversations become escalated and customers end up leaving. My favorite is when someone puts one on but then pulls it down to talk to you.

I understand that different areas of the world are in different places with this depending on how hard the area is hit with the virus, so all I can report on is where I live and work.

Now put this same group in a theater where they are paying for their entertainment or snacking on something, and you think protecting those around them will be a priority?

On an unrelated note, I was not familiar with the part of Utah you call home, so I looked it up and I must say, it looks beautiful.

What is currently happening is nothing more than a moment in time. Yes some changes may occur but draconian changes happen very infrequently and they are not fueled by "mob mentality."

Things like money and politics have a way of making changes either sidetracked or not happening at all.

Companies and governments want to be accommodating to current conditions . . . up to a point. Then the push back begins. We just haven't reached that point yet.

There are some doing this with certain models of JVC projectors. Kris Deering believes the newer models of JVC projectors does a really good job with the latest software where the projector does dynamic HDR. He did not mention what happens when the source is DV. Since my Sony 4K projector does not do HDR I have not followed the HDFury on this.

I did procure a HDFury Integral2 and Goblue (received yesterday). Main purpose, to provide detailed HDMI info and provide 1080 video with audio to AVP. My Yamaha CX-A5100 can have handshake issues with with some UHD source devices so I use a HDMI switcher for video and use the HDMI audio to the AVP. The Nvidia and Roku does not have have separate HDMI so I am back to handshake issues, Roku takes forever, shield works pretty fast.

I will rewire and run all UHD devices thru the switcher and use the Integral 2 to split the video and audio. A side benefit, I have a 1080 monitor connected to the AVP so now I can read menu items on it when I have the projector zoomed for 2.39:1 content. Now to finish the MX-980 remote programming.

Sounds like a solid solution. Let me know what you think of the Integral 2. Good luck with the programming today. I have an electrician out today to run dedicated 20 amp lines for the new subs coming, as I don’t mess with high voltage. What a fun hobby we have...and usually expensive!

I hope the digital "collector" fools see the Gone With The Wind as another example of why you can't trust digital. Here today, gone tomorrow.

Really getting sick of over sensitive pu$$ies in this country. This country's citizens have gotten a lot weaker and stupid in recent years. I'm anti racist/discrimination as anyone else but damn. I can only imagine how many people will drop like files almost instantly when the shit hits the fan and it literally comes to everyone for themselves and only the strongest survive. I wonder if they will care about fake slaves in a movie then? As many weak and stupid people there are in this country, I'm shocked that a lot more people aren't getting themselves killed. Hell, I almost plowed through some idiot crossing the street during a busy day yesterday. He was crossing the street while the light was green and wasn't signaled to cross. He some how managed to not get hit by a few different other cars as well. Still trying to pinpoint exactly what it is making Americans so stupid these days...

Not to sidetrack into social commentary or to point the finger but I was watching seemingly endless "Karen" videos on youtube while staying at home.
The stupidity of these "Karens" goes beyond comprehension. I'm sure other countries have their share of public freakout people as well, but "Karen" obviously takes the cake.

It shouldn't be, though, but apparently it is more than many of our member's can handle. Discussion of the current controversy always broadened to wider political views and that inevitably lead to members insulting each other.

Three long established threads that once were about the blu-ray releases of this movie are now permanently deleted; at least one of these threads dated back to 2009 when the 70th Anniversary box set was released. I am not going to juggle this nitroglycerin by discussing it further here lest this thread meets the same fate.
