Best Potter film by far. One of the best films of the year. Easily in the top five of this year.
I don't think people really realize how great this film is. This is my favorite book of the series and the adaptation is 98% glorious. In some parts, it bests the novel. I know the extended edition of this film is probably a year off but I can't wait that long to own this film. That's how much I love this film. It's my number one film of the year and I still can't believe it. I've seen a lot of films this year and only one other film this year has grabbed me as much as this film grabbed me and that was Pixar's Up. Maybe the Oscar bait films this year will dethrone this film but I just don't see it. It's really that good. |

Completely agree. If you are going to watch HP you have to watch all of them IMO. The stroy just connects way too much. Even in the last film they are going to bring things up from the first film and they do it with out flashbacks and such so they expect the viewer to know what they are talking about without the flashbacks.

I'm confused about the combo pack. If you go here:
http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/ha....html#/special The disc breakdown for the blu-ray indicates that its two discs, with the feature+maximum movie mode on disc 1 and all the other special features on a second disc. I guess I thought this was a 3 disc combo + digital copy with only one blu-ray and 2nd disc dvd, 3rd disc DC? |

My biggest gripe? Why cut all the information out about the Horcruxes? That is such a crucial element of the final book/movie and without it I was lost in the movie. After reading the book it all made perfect sense. Even at two movies, they will be having to cram a lot of stuff in to fill all the unexplained stuff thus far. For what it's worth though, I can;t wait to watch this again on blu-ray and yep, I will be rebuying all of these in their extended version at one point or another. |

Silent,
Actually, the film makes Harry's journey harder because it only gave him a clue about the Horcurxes. In the novel, because of the genius of Dumbledore, he basically tells him what they are. In the film, Harry has no idea but they left what I would consider a fantastic visual clue as to where to find them. You have to see the film at least twice to catch it but it's there. The difference is that Harry has to work to find the Horcurxes.... As for cutting stuff out with this series, they almost have no choice. Granted, they've boxed themselves in by basically relegating the films to at least two hours and twenty minutes. Technically, that's not enough. But, for the films, they've streamlined everything to where the sole purpose is to stay on Harry's arc, which is the story. Everything that doesn't pertain to Harry tends to be gone. Half-Blood Prince is an interesting affair because for the majority of the book, it's all about the trio and them dealing with the hormones. So, in essence, the film got that completely right. But, the book is all about preparation for Harry, hence the reason it almost feels incomplete. Again, I think the film did that extremely well. It feels finished yet unfinished at the same time. Given the source material, I think the writer has done a fantastic job getting this story down to reasonable levels. A less skillful writer would've made these films bloated messes. Oh yeah...this film doesn't work if you haven't seen the other films. Technically, you don't need the books to get this series. If you watched the first five films and then saw this one, the emotion of the finale should hit you very hard...if you've been paying attention to Harry's journey.
The opening flashback to this film is utterly brilliant, in terms of what it conveys about this particular story and Harry's overall arc. I remember when the film started and the flashback start, I literally gasp because David Yates(director) got what this book was about. He just nailed it with one jester between Dumbledore and Harry. I damn near cried. |

Have read the books and seen all the films up to Half-Blood Prince. Very excited for this release on BD (did not see this in the theater) as this was one of my favorite books in the series.
I agree with the others, you really need some background before you watch this movie. Highly recommend you watch the other movies first in order. |

This is a blind buy for me. All my friends think Harry Potter sucks. The only HP movie I saw in the theater was Goblet of Fire with my ex-girlfriend. She made me go and I've been watching HP since. Needless to say, I pre-ordered through Amazon.
