I see just the disc come out at Target a few months after this just like WB's other titles they did this with.

I just looked at the Amazon UK site and wow the price is not bad. The shipping does make it higher but I just paid $16 with shipping.

You can't beat that...a perfect example of why more and more people are probably going to import the UK Blu and skip the U.S. release (or at least until the U.S. set comes down significantly in price)...

I've had the UK edition for over a year, I do believe. If it's going to be the same transfer, I'll pass. I'm not paying $35 for some new extras. It looks and sounds decent enough on the UK disc. If anyone knows of it being a new transfer, please let us know.

I have the UK version and I'm happy with it, bought it together with Labyrinth for only $30 shipped. So you can get 2 movies and still saves a few more bucks.

No difference (maybe more subtitles). Same reason why I bought The Goonies from UK: it's cheaper. Getting both together saves a little bit more on shipping cost.

I already have the UK version, the only way I'm getting the "new" collector set, if the blu brings more stuff than the "older" version.

Waiting to see if this is a new transfer. If not, I'll just order the UK version without all the extra junk.

Nope. I can order stuff from germany and elsewhere, minus canadian titles that they put french on the front cover or spine, but something about the uk logos just turns me off.

Why can't we just get blu-ray movies without all the extra crap. I'd like to see all blu-ray movies packaged just like Criterion does theirs in a clear blu-ray box and no digital copy and no dvd copy. I want high def. If you want a DVD copy go buy the freaking DVD....

You clearly don't understand how it's a selling point to a lot of people.

And how it encourages more Blu-Ray sales, since people get a bonus DVD.

It is one selling point to one group of potential customers and I think Mr. Joshua understands that quite well. Why should people who have no personal use for it have that forced upon them just for the sake of buying a film? While you on the one hand have people buying them because of it there are also those who choose not to since they haven't an option. That means loss of potential sales.

Are we talking about the DVD... that sits in the case not even drawing attention to itself? That really bugs people?

People are weird.

It's not like the bonus DVD or Digital Copy really adds to the price in most cases.

Absolutely! Yes, the two on-screen women I was most in love with as a young boy were Tanya Roberts and Tami Stronach ("The NeverEnding Story")...and to be honest, I think I'll always be in love with both of them ...

It's funny, but about 90% of all the films I own are from that decade

Lately you and I haven't seen eye-to-eye on a lot of things, but I agree with you on this 100%. They don't hurt anything, they don't add much to the price (the only time that a 'combo pack' seems to really get marked up is if there is a plain Blu-Ray alternative).

I don't see what the big deal is.

The next thing will be people complaining that the DVD inside of the case is giving the Blu-Ray "cooties".

If I were to buy this movie at all, I would want just the disc as well - those particular extras don't do anything for me, but what must be understood is that Blu-ray is growing extremely slowly. In general, someone who only cares about seeing the movie will either buy the DVD or download it.

So the future of Blu-ray is largely going to be a collector's medium - someone who wants the perfect picture and sound that Blu-ray provides, plus all the disc extras, plus all the collectable extras. That's why films like this are going to come in big packages with all of this stuff added. Sometimes the stuff will be good and worth having and sometimes it's not going to be so good.
