I'm kinda bummed. I knew someone was giving me an amazon gift certificate for christmas. So I went online and found some really good deals. ie Red Cliffs for 15.99 and the Harold Lloyd Collection for 12.49 but alas they have all gone back up in price.

My question is, will there be a boxing week sale at Amazon or should I save my gift certificate for next Christmas?
well, we'll see at midnight pacific time (that's when the boxing day sale starts). we just don't know if the deals are hot or not

I don't think that $24.99 price had anything to do with a sale. It kicked in sometime in the late afternoon / early evening and ended around 10-ish. I think it was a price error, or one of those things where their system abruptly adjusts the price based on whatever algorithm they're using. It did its job either way -- that set was already #1 on their DVD bestseller list by the time the price went back up!

If this was a price error, than will they honour it?

They honored the Shrek box set price error. I'll assume that depending how many people ordered it, they'll honor it. Amazon seems to be pretty good about that.

Thumbs down

Boxing week sales at Amazon.ca... Huge let down! Not that many choices, and anything that is good has a high price tag.

Picked up Outbreak for $9.49...that's the only BD I wanted out of that list that had a decent price. Picked up Earth: Final Conflict Seasons 2 thru 5 on DVD since I've been wanting to watch this for awhile....that's pretty much it.

That was one of two things I picked up from Amazon. Boxing day blows compared to Black Friday!

Definitely, last year was better I think, there is literally nothing I want this year as I already purchased the American version of this collection (and already got the GTA4 Complete Collection).

There are also a few good DVDs on sale.

Princess Mononoke $7.99

Trois couleurs (Bleu / Blanc / Rouge) $9.99 ( I ordered this on Dec 20 at twice the price and they just refunded $10 after I pointed it out. I love it when companies do sensible things and that's a reason for me to keep going back.)

If only the other Studio Ghibli titles would drop in price...

Don't know, but the individual movies do not. (Audio: French lossless, Swedish; Subs: French) my guess is that it most likely is the same thing

Default Amazon Christmas Day Sale Sucks

Wow I checked out the boxing day sale at Amazon and there are virtually no good deals. Last years boxing day special was much better in that they had a lot of good titles going for 9.99 to 14.99. A lot of you will probably already own those that have half-way decent sale prices.

Supposedly they are adding some new deals for the 26th, hope they are better than todays.

Amazon.ca mostly sucks, yeah. A lot of the titles that are on 4.99-6.99 at Futureshop are on Amazon.ca for like 9.99...

But there's still a few decent deals...

- Austin Powers bluray set is $17.49
- Scream bluray set is $17.49

some other TV sets seem reasonable.. but yeah, nothing that "screams" super hot deal.

Austin Powers is a killer deal. They've also got the Spy Kids trilogy for the same price. My niece loves them (and Shark Boy for some horrible reason)

Wasn't sure if I wanted that LOTR set for $29.99 at Costco a few few back, so I missed that deal. I did buy it for $30.99 though at Amazon.ca and I suppose that's not bad. Have never seen any of these flicks in completion, so it'll be a fun thing to finally see.

Is this a good pick up, I haven't heard of this before.

I saw that box set for $29.99 everywhere today -- Blockbuster, Walmart, Best Buy -- the Blockbuster sales guy was so proud of it too. He was selling it as if it was a once-in-a-lifetime deal... and you don't need a membership to buy it either!
