@ Umr: Which front projectors are you reffering too? Are there projectors below 4K that can produce such an image?

I would look at the JVC DLA-RS40U. I suspect you can find that for under 4k.

Other units to look at would be the JVC DLA-RS50U, JVC DLA-RS60U, TruVue Vango, Sim2 HT3000, Sim2 Lumis, Vivitek H5082 and Optoma HD8600.

Thumbs up

[QUOTE=dobyblue;4335667]I don't think you low-balled it, perhaps for eBay you did where most sellers are just profiteering and/or don't know better places to look. I've seen lots of PRO-151's go for around $3500 on sites that people in the know would look on.

The 5020 and 6020 also have a work-around now which lets calibrators access the service menu panel to allow for pure mode and ISF mode, giving a calibrated result that is practically on par with the elites.

My 5020 is on par with my 111 now that I did the board swap. It's a great deal. You get pure mode and pro settings with every picture adjustment the elites do and the ISF modes as well. You dont need control-cal to get these new features, just the board swap which is pretty easy. I wish we would of known about this 2yrs ago....even pro Calibrators say side by side with Calibration equipment there dead nuts the same. I wast going to bother to do the upgrade but curiosity got the best of me. Hehehe :-) more members need to know about this upgrade for sure. Spread the word or start a thread !

That's great Sonny. Good to know that it worked for you and it should encourage more people to do the mod themselves. I'd like to pick up a 5020 or a 6020 sometime if I can find one locally and in good condition.

Thank you. That would be sweet if you can find a 5020/6020 cheap and upgrade it! I'd like to do the same & help others through the board swap.

Early reports of the Sharp Elite Pro-60X5FD and 70X5FD Local Dimming LED TV look to be very promising.

Here is a quote from Robert Zohn (Value Electronics) that he posted on HDJ after getting to take a look at the new Elites
Quote:
Just got back from Sharp USA headquarters and I have been asked to keep most of the information they shared with me confidential, but I can share somethings.

First, and most importantly, is the pq is outstanding. Second, is that nothing in this technology is in any way similar to any Sharp model. Just to tell you two very basic, but important features of the Elite series is that they are the only Sharp manufactured TVs that are back-lit and further the built-in video processor and contrast enhancement circuitry are also exclusive to the Elite series.

I could not stop my face from smiling when I saw the familiar Elite gold embossed logo on the center of the bottom bezel, it really looks cool. Speaking of the bezel, it's a black anodized brushed aluminum slim bezel that looks very professional.

They had it in their theater demo room sitting on a table next to an Elite Signature Series 141FD. Both panels were just calibrated by Kevin Miller when he visited Sharp last week to do his evaluation. With the room lights on the new Elite kicked ass, when the room was totally dark the new Elite still looked better, but the new Elite's improved pq was not as dramatic as it is with the room lights on.

More good news is that this panel exhibits very little blooming when a bright object moves across the black screen, which is due to the very small local dimming zones, they populated the full array back-lit LED with more zones than any other back-lit LED (sorry I can't disclose how many zones they put into this gorgeous panel, but I will disclose this and more at our shoot-out.) Also the blooming is hard to see as it not a bright glow around the objects, somehow they were able to greatly reduce the blooming anomaly.

I also can't announce the retail, but it another good surprise, the 60" and 70" are priced very well to appeal to a big segment of the high-end market and this TV is very well positioned for enthusiasts.

I'll post some pictures later.

I'm excited to have this beauty in our shoot-out.

-Robert

Lets see if the successor/s to those models will top the Elite 101.

I was ready to replace my G9 Kuro with a biggger 65" VT30 this year. Seems i will hang onto my Kuro as there is no way i am spending 4K for a plasma that jumps up and down in brightness. Last year it was floating blacks and black level rise and this year it's the brightness problem. Maybe i will look into a Runco Plasma.

The new Vistage Displays from Runco are AMAZING!!! They are expensive compared to the mass market plasmas. But seeing the 63" and 50" compared to my PDP-5020FD (Which is ISF Calibrated), the Runco Vistages are equal to if not better than the 9G Kuros.
