What's with some blu rays that I see in dvd cases with half arsed printed artwork?

They just find some blu ray discs out back without cases or something?

is the 'cover reprinted' a sticker or part of the print?

Never seen them before

I'll have a look if I go in tomorrow to see if there's any there, but from what I recall, it just looks like a cheap homebrew printed cover. I don't think they're part of any box set like it's on a temp cover/case or something.

Put me off getting a couple.

No idea why they have so many now... they always seemed to have a few reprinted ones, but this amount does seem odd. I wonder if all the loose discs from other branches are getting shipped here??

This is in Southampton by the way... always used to be quite well stocked... but when the HMV closed over a year ago it meant that they were no longer getting all the stock shoplifted from there and sold on in CEX!

Whole sleeve reprinted and placed in the case with the banner, think they legally have to have that disclaimer on as they got into trouble before for just reprinting the sleeves.

Yeah the odd occasion I've found something I wanted, only to discover was a reprinted sleeve so left it.

Also this is the response I got from CEX when I complained about the reprinted covers-

"About the printed cover, I'd like to advise you that usually, we do not print covers but if the cover sold to us is in bad condition and if customers are willing to purchase the media disc, only on their concent, we sell printed cover discs in store."

I ordered a couple of things from CEX a few months back and when I received them one of the Blu's had a cover that was printed on a shitty printed using a low res image. I tried to return the item but was told that CEX cannot take back any item unless in it's original packaging. I pointed out that it was how I received the item and the response was along the lines of "prove it."

CeX are a disgrace. They've been known to sell limited editions with re-printed covers at limited edition prices to unsuspecting customers and not accept them back for refunds as well as not accepting their "Cover Reprinted" editions (even though they say "Printed by CeX" on the interior) back as trade-ins.

As far as people have been able to find out, they've got no permissions to reprint covers and we as customers have no idea if the discs are from box sets (or wherever).

£6 for reprinted covers of the Iron Man BDs, they should be in plastic sleeves on the counter for a £1.

That sucks whedon.

It's a bloody joke, there sell you a disc with a printed cover, but try selling one yourself to them and there say we cannot buy that as its a printed cover

I've seen some atrocious reprinted sleeves, they shouldn't accept anything with damaged covers in the first place or just give the customer sod all (well, they do that anyway ) and then sell it disc only.

I've sold blu-rays with CEX printed covers back to my local CEX without a problem.

As someone who has worked in a similar type of retail environment, ( ... Cash Generator) I'd hazard an educated guess as to another reason why CEX have so many "re-printed covers" i.e. because people are stealing the originals. I know that in the CG shop I worked in we had a lot of DVD/Blu-ray cases stolen. My thoughts as to why it was happening: people who already owned the disc but had damaged their own case or cover and it was an easy way for them to get a free replacement, using "five finger discount"!

Second worst thing about CEX, behind actually being there, is standing in the one assistant manned queue behind someone trading a piece of tech. Life is too short.

I seriously hope the reprinted cover blu-rays cost less than ones with actual covers.

Nope exactly the same price alas. They've got a few arrow editions like this too. Yes you too can pay £15 for a used copy with no booklet... no clear case... and a crappy reprinted sleeve with no reverse artwork!!

Oh and most likely a scratched disc too.

That's probably my biggest gripe with CEX selling titles with reprinted covers. The price should be lower when your effectively buying disc only. Without the original cover it's not complete no matter what they they say.

Most of the printed cover versions are a massive 50p cheaper than the proper ones in my local branch, but they don't usually have too many.

They've had a copy of Arrow's Lifeforce in there for over a year with a printed cover that's never dropped below £20 (even when the new version was in the HMV BOGOF for £14.99 earlier this year).

while we're on the subject of annoyance with Cex, it bugs me that the videogame area of their business is probably their biggest one yet they'll only have 1 listing for both the black label release and budget platinum re-releases but with blu-ray they seem to have the many different releases of a movie and yes both videogame re-releases and movie reissues have different barcodes so it makes no sense

and haven't used the correct cover either, sticker says BD+3D but the cover mentions HDR which means it's supposed to be UHD
