Back in the 1970s, it would have been difficult to find a better choice than Lynda Carter. But for contemporary audiences, Wonder Woman needs to be tough as nails without losing her femininity: Evangeline Lilly. You couldn't take your eyes off her (even if you were gay) for six seasons of "LOST," She would have defined the character for a whole new generation. She has a worldly look and a cunning expression along with that gorgeous face.

Evangeline doesn't look like WW either. I didn't say she wasn't attractive, but she just doesn't look like WW to me. And again, WW is tall. Evangeline is 5'5". Adrienne at least has the height. In any event, no matter who we wanted Adrienne is the new WW whether we like it or not.

We are in agreement on both points you made. That artist's rendering is clearly just slapping a costume on a female bodybuilder. When I say bulk up, Adrienne has put on a few pounds since her last roles. She currently looks nothing like a bodybuilder and shouldn't to play Wonder Woman. Evangeline is way too small and thin to be Wonder Woman.

I'm still not understanding your argument, but than again superheroes with muscles or specific heights never made sense to me. They aren't like humans who gain strength and power with more muscle, they are genetically built to be stronger so physical builds for aliens don't make much sense to me. I don't understand why they where ever given muscles besides the fact that it is supposed to make them look healthier cause for an alien it wouldn't serve purpose lol. So for me they can look as ordinary as they want, cause a female body builder has never looked sexy to me, and Clark Kent was always way too buff to be a believable nerd, he always looked ready to bust the jacket seams out haha.

They need a good actress... but honestly, I would like to see a female bodybuilder in the role. Not the equivalent of Ferrigno as the Hulk... that would be extreme, because Wonder Woman is not hulk-like in her physique... but I would find it easier to accept an athletic woman in the role.

They could go for those fitness models... which are sort of an in-between... they go for an athletic build that shows musculature without an emphasis on being able to lift cars over their head.

That said... I still think far too much emphasis is being placed on the look and not nearly enough on the script.

We could accept the fictional Wonder Woman having strength without looking like a real woman would have to look in order to perform the physical feats IF the script and characters are strong.

IF they live for the visual... then I maintain it will be short-lived.

I can live with the costume. It would probably look better under better lighting, but the plot synopsis is unforgiveable. Why even bother calling it Wonder Woman?

Quote:
Los Angeles-based mega-billionaire Diana—who collects planes and a multitude of transforming aircraft called “Ultimates” (no invisible plane in sight here)—as she attempts to take down an evil pharmaceutical company run by morally corrupt scientist Veronica Cale, who is mass-producing a human-growth hormone that is causing its users, mostly black inner city youth, to die. Along the way, she tackles criminals, a Senate subcommittee, and a broken heart, the latter courtesy of lost love Steve Trevor.
It sounds like a bad episode of the last season of the 70's show or the Catwoman film with Halle Berry. Seriously, you have a Greek goddess for a character, who can fly and do all of these amazing things...and this is what you come up with? I know it's "only" television and not a feature film benefiting a larger budget, but this is just lame.

Lynda Carter, star of the '70s television series The New Adventures of Wonder Woman, thinks the latest incarnation of the D.C. Comics superheroine's outfit, unveiled Friday, hits the bullseye.
She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "What's not to like! Adrianne [Palicki] looks gorgeous and I'm really looking forward to seeing David E. Kelley's new series."

Carter's opinion runs contrary to some of the immediate reactions to the skin-tight red and blue suit, which shows plenty of actress Adrianne Palicki's bosom and appears to be made of latex. Fox News claimed that the outfit lacked patriotism while the Los Angeles Times ran a poll asking readers whether it was a good representation of the Amazon princess character or more akin to a Halloween costume.

NBC's Wonder Woman pilot has lined up a number of actors such as Cary Elwes and guest star Elizabeth Hurley but Carter will not be among those immediately taking part in the project.

She tells THR, "I talked to David [E. Kelley] about doing something in the pilot but with my new CD, Crazy Little Things coming out in April and touring for the album, we couldn't coordinate our schedules but you never know what will happen in the future. Stay tuned!"

Well at least she gets her costume right away. Smallville fans, which I am one of, has/had to wait 10 years to before seeing Clark Kent don his...which we've only seen a glimps of through a reflection in his eyeball.

Well yeah the show IS called Smallville and you're only ASSUMING she gets the costume right away, they may go the entire first season without allowing her to wear it.

It was only really Smallville for the first 3-4 seasons, since then it's really been Metropolis. This woman is good-looking and I'm running out of shows to watch so I'll give it a whirl for at least 1 episode.

Isn't Julie Strain actually Wonder Woman? Has she got a younger twin sister who can act?

When I heard David E Kelly's name with WW my first impression was Ally McBeal with superpowers (hey they can use Calista Flockhart as the lasso!). A Legal Eagle who saves the world and wins cases in her spare time. Who collects planes?

My first impression when I saw the outfit was hysterical laughter.

I shall remain sceptical until I see the pilot but I shall look forward to it immensely.

Julie Strain would have been an ideal successor to Lynda Carter *if* NBC had proposed the series to her 10 years earlier. She's a true Amazonian, clocking in at 6'1" and, as a former Penthouse Pet, we know she has the physique to match. She's also had some....umm, acting experience, and she could always improve with an acting coach on the set. She's 49 now, so she may not be suited for the role, but in terms of capturing the look, she's miles ahead of Palicki.

Here she is in her heyday:

At least from that pic she definitely has the look . And at 6'1" that's towering for a woman.

Lynda Carter was great as WW back in the day and I had a major crush on her as a pre-teen. I bought the DVD set cheap from an Amazon seller (no pun intended) and after a few episodes its difficult to watch an entire show because they are rather corny. I didn't never noticed it before but Lynda Carter was quite thin. She was an ideal WW back then but not anymore.

She doesnt work for Themyscira Industries, she's the owner and CEO and her name is Diana Themyscira. Now my issue is much more with using that as her publicly known alias than for a company name. Diana Prince is her secret alias.

Like the pants. From the description it sounds the diana Prince persona gets most of the action.

Adrienne is sexy, but this show has FAIL written on every inch of it. If this where a movie I might be in, but no matter how much I love her due to Friday Night Lights, I know this show will never work. I am calling it now, 7 episodes and CANCELED. Somebody remember this for me cause I am way to out of it to recall what I'm typing, hahaha. Settin' sail with Captain Morgan, though I never leave dry land.....................

In light of how well the two movies did, it's possible that there might be an audience for this (I'm not among them though, as I still refuse to see either movie to this day). I see a longer run than the doomed-from-the-start Bionic Woman, but a renewal for season two might be unlikely (then again, who expected a third season of 90210 )

Actually looks like she belongs on the cover of a porno spoof of the character... You know, the ones that mock movie titles like "Romancing the Bone," "Saturday Night Beaver," "Muffy the Vampire Slayer," and "White Men Can't Hump." Maybe they could retitle it ...Under Woman? ...Asunder Woman? ...Plunder Woman?

Nah, it's just Blunder Woman!

I think the show will draw in good numbers for the pilot. After that, it depends on the script. I rarely watch regular television but there was enough hype and the Bionic Woman pulled me in for a couple of episodes. The show seeming had no plot or no direction and I decided there were other things I'd rather do with my time. I'd be surprised if it lasted a whole season (or even half a season myself) but if it was done decently I could see it lasting.

Before the show starts it appears WW hardly has a "secret identity". Isn't WW's home called Themyscira? That seems like a dead giveaway. Then again, the Diana Prince alias is also a dead giveaway when WW is called Princess Diana.

They will not show much of Wonder Woman in costume at all during the show. That is more for the fanboys and males in the audience to drool over in promo shots. The pilot will draw viewership, as curious fanboys will tune-in at least once. But NBC is clearly going after a female viewership in how the show is constructed and who runs it.

Julie Strain would have been an incredible choice a decade or two ago, but that was a time when Warner really thought a theatrical movie was possible or in a perpetual state of development. Recently they realized that Wonder Woman on her own probably does not have the fanbase to headline a 150-million blockbuster movie, the risk of failure was too high. Only once they decided that did a television show become a real possibility.

If she's the CEO of her company you would think she would make a better outfit. Maybe she owns all the FYE's?
