It’s a great journey! I’ve watched it from beginning to end two or three times and it’s just so consistently GOOD and well-made, especially for the first 8-9 seasons. I watched it go out live from the pilot episode and stuck with it until around season 12 or 13, and then didn’t watch every episode, though I made sure to jump back in for the final season (and later went back and watched what I’d missed). Still one of my fave shows of all time!

This show NEEDS a Blu-Ray release. The DVDs are functional but look very poor.

They would have to remaster the first six seasons in HD and get all the music clearance rights sorted out for the entire show to be released on disc. That takes time and WB's money, which we know they are stingy with at the moment.

Now that a Friends Complete Series 4K release has been confirmed by WB, I just HAVE to think that an ER release can't be far behind! It would be AMAZING if it also got a 4K release, too.

2024 is the 30th anniversary, so I would assume WB has something planned for this.

ER premiered on NBC, September 19th, 1994.

It's a little less than a month away from it's 30th anniversary.

Would be amazing if this show got a 4K boxset, which Friends is receiving next month.

Unfortunately, something like that would've been announced by now.

Even though I just went through my DVDs last year if this happens I’d totally buy it. I get the itch to watch the show every 5 years or so.

I've emailed WB about this from time to time, and again recently.

I mean Friends got a Blu-ray release, now it's getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release, while ER gets nothing?

That doesn't sit right with me. There's something very wrong about that.

I think the reality is if there's gonna be a Blu-ray release, it'll be next year. I mean, studios have done anniversary releases a year or two before or after the actual date.

Don't know if these will affect its chances for a Blu-ray release but it seems like there is some really bad blood between Crichton's heirs and WB. They tried to reboot the show but without having to give Crichton 'created by' credit. And then Wells did The Pitt, which is pretty much ER with a name change.

I don't think it'll affect a Blu-ray release, given that the suit was only recently filed, although obviously the bad blood simmered for some time.

Quote:
The estate was told an ask for a “created by” credit for the late Crichton ...would not happen.
It's really poor of studios to do stuff like this though, and good on Crichton's estate. So basically it's like WB wouldn't fork up for an ER sequel, so they did it in a back alley way that would allow them to avoid honouring the contractual agreements.

In reality though, the show probably will fail anyway lol. A lot of people love ER and bringing back that cast would have been pretty great to see them again.

I’m watching season one on Max right now and the picture looks good to me. Pleasantly grainy. I would maybe bump up the color saturation a notch and there’s occasional print damage that needs removing, but otherwise, I would be satisfied with this transfer on Blu-ray.

A proper restoration for a show as important as ER is justified. There is no reason why WB can't put the same amount of effort for ER as they have done for Friends. Again, Friends is even getting a 4K release. There really isn't an excuse on WB's part. It won't be cheap, but I'll buy it.

I mean, ER is three times more content and less popular than Friends, and the state of the physical media market being what it is… I get it. I’m not happy about it, but I understand it.

True enough, but Warner had their chances at the 20th and 25th anniversaries as well. Still, we'll see how things go.
