Is anyone else having playback issues with the three music videos on Blu-Ray? I'm experiencing audio drop outs, speed and synch issues as well as extreme tiling; especially during the "Tom Sawyer" video. I'm playing back the first of the three audio tracks, 2.0 / 96kbps.
I'm using a Panasonic DMP-BD35. Is my firmware OOD? Thanks! |

I am happy to hear that this is a good release, I have been patiently waiting for a while. Hopefully Amazon won't have any delays once it is non-exclusive. (I have enough GCs to get it for free so that is why I chose to wait)

This is very strange. I seem to be having some sort of issue with the LPCM 2.0 tracks on this BD and, now, on Damn the Torpedoes, which I tested directly after.
Both give me no sound when they are set to the 2.0 audio, until I go to Audio on my player display and change the audio track back and forth, then the 2.0 comes on fine. What's very odd is, Le Noise's LPCM 2.0 track plays perfectly right from the start... |

I picked this up from Best Buy. It's a truly great release that does justice to the format while showing its promise as a medium for music. I've listened to this album for decades and it sounds better than ever...WAY better. The 5.1 mix is tasteful and feels like the album you know and love - only now it feels so much more immediate and engulfing. The first listen is really quite thrilling. Oddly enough it was actually around Side 2 though that I just totally fell in love with the whole thing. The Camera Eye and Witch Hunt are killer!
Best of all the drums are big, punchy, and pack a nice deep thud. The bass locks right in and everything else has nice space. As good as the 2.0 sounds, after listening to the lossless 5.1 mix it will seem....meh. Just get it. If you even remotely like this kind of thing, you'll love it. And turn it up. Here's another person/consumer hoping that Blu-Ray audio catches on. I'll probably buy anything that comes along unless I really don't like the artist. We're off to a great start with Moving Pictures. |

Slightly recall the talk about these remasters but then lost track of them. Just happened to stumble upon the disc while I was picking up the new Foo Fighters at Best Buy. Always kinda liked Rush (but admittedly mostly the hits), but the prospect of having "Moving Pictures" in high-res sounds very interesting. If nothing else, I'd like to throw my money in the ring to continue to support high-res music on BR.

Definitely, it's quite a bit louder, but not destroyed like most @ 2010 remasters. Still a healthy 11dB DR on average which is respectable.

Thanks Doby, I can't find my original CD, but the bass drum has more thump than I remember. Was curious if anything was remixed for the re-release of the CD. This one, apparently, goes to 11.

As the majority of BD players on the market, yours doesn't play DVD-Audio. What player do you have?

I have a Panny DMP-BD60. It does play the disc just fine. It has 2.0 PCM or 5.1 Dolby Digital. Is it just extracting the 5.1 DD from the MLP? I've never heard of MLP. Thanks for your help!

Tried the DTS-MA 5.1 and while I love the AQ, I found the mix to be a bit gimmicky. Seems they mixed the drumkit to use all channels so Neil's drums were all over the room. While it sounded cool, it also sounded weird. Perhaps the PCM 2.0 will be more "focused". Other than that, the new nuances and sound bits I'm hearing is fantastic.

I think I found an answer to my previous post:
"And in an unusual move, Mercury has also released this package as a CD and DVD-Audio combo pack. This is purportedly the first new DVD-A release since 2008. Since the DVD-A comes with a video-compatible layer that can be read by all regular DVD players and includes a 5.1 DD and 2.0 PCM track, anybody with a surround setup that wants to hear Moving Pictures in 5.1 can do so." http://forums.audioreview.com/showthread.php?t=36419 |

Also, any comparative comments from anyone who has both the DVD-A *and* BD? I understand that from an SQ perspective the releases are identical. But how 'bout the GUI? Last edited by Paul.R.S; 04-18-2011 at 01:39 AM. |
