If they're following their usual release pattern, then we'll probably see From up on Poppy Hill in June or July, with a catalog release or maybe two around the same time. Wouldn't think we'll hear about them until April, March at the earliest...

![]() One thing I was saying to my friend the other day is how I'm not looking forward to spending £60 on Pom Poko - I almost detest that film, but I'm sure I'll see it in a better light in HD! Just like I am with Earthsea - it's almost a different movie in 1080p. Does anyone know how well these blu rays actually do when released in Japan? I'd like to think the Japanese public are as crazy about these discs as us, but I'm guessing. They must do well enough for them to release them so gradually and at such a high price eh? |

I think the blu's are doing good in Japan. They might be slow burners, meaning they stay in the lists over the long haul and not just the initial release month, so they'll at least continue to keep selling for some time to come. |

Does anyone know from which site is it the cheapest to buy the Japan version of the Ghibli Blurays?
oh, and i wanted to ask another thing: as time passes by prices drop in Japan too? Eg we may see them next year in half price? or this is not an option at all? Last edited by filmmusic; 11-24-2011 at 07:48 PM. |

Amazon JP or HMV JP Amazon JP has em for sale/preorder for up to 26% off retail and no consumption tax if you ship em outside JP. They ship international express mail via DHL thou so that is gonna cost ya, but it's cheaper if you buy 3 or 4 items since the cost is spread out for each additional item. HMV JP normally has multi buy sales... but it's often 15% off or so... unless they have a Ghibli sale which is 25% off... they once had a sale for all DVD/BD that has been released at 30% off... but I've only seen them do that once. Also no consumption tax if shipped outside JP. HMV ships via EMS only. Regardless of which way you guy... shipping is gonna cost ya if you buy 1 BD at a time. Best to save up and buy 4+ at once. Oh be sure to use a CC that has no or low international fees. Capital One is the way to go if your gonna import, it's 0%. As far as I know... JP DVDs/BDs do not go down in price over time... Only way they do is if they reissue the title at a lower price point. Then the title will have a new catalogue number and UPC code etc... it'll be a new SKU. |

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiki%27...rvice#Releases), Kiki is yet to appear in Blu-ray (Rumor), and also an upcoming live action remake by Disney.

Thank you for the detailed information. I live in Greece. YEsasia has free shipping, and Amazon has lower prices in blurays, so i don't know if in the end the price is the same (blurays +shipping) either from Amazon or Yesasia. |

Once all of them have been released a couple of years down the line, if Madman still owns the distribution rights, then nothing stops them from bundling them together in a box set, or am I missing something here? |

Obviously nothing set stone. But judging from the fact that a DVD boxset was never released anywhere could be an indication that a Blu-ray boxset isn't on the horizon anytime soon. Besides, Ghibli titles are too numerous to bundle in one boxset.

generally if you are buying more then one it is cheaper to go through Amazon. The international shipping is like $30. Yesasia has the titles for about $90 and Amazon has them for about $75. So if you buy two it would be the same price, maybe a dollar more or less, but you will get them a lot faster then you would through Yesasia. However, if you buy 3+ then it becomes significantly cheaper then Yesasia.

Maybe it's just semantics or different interpretations of a what boxset should be. When I think of boxset I think of an all-encompassing collection - or almost all-encompassing - with a unifying theme such as the Stanley Kubrick Film Collection, Criterion's The Films of Akira Kurosawa Collection, The Harry Potter Collection, Trilogy/Quadrilogy boxsets such as Alien, LOTR, Vengeance, Bourne, Jurassic Park, etc.

I for one can't be bothered waiting for something like that though. I need my Ghibli fix as soon as they are released individually ![]() |

You may think a complete box set will be unlikely, well I don't. Either that, or they could release 2 with 10 films each or so when everything is out on blu (as I'm sure there will have been at least one more theatrical release until then). Last edited by GC Riot; 11-28-2011 at 05:39 AM. |
