It may surprise some people, but films have directors and cinematographers for a reason. They decide what goes in the frame and what doesn't. I like Citizen Kane in 1.33:1, but I don't want to watch Full Metal Jacket that way just because Kubrick shot it full frame. It was framed for 1.85, and that's how it should be watched. The framing looks loose and sloppy in 1.33. Same goes for H20, in my book. It's not a question of liking or disliking a certain aspect ratio...it's a question of caring or not caring about the filmmakers' intent. So I don't see how your example makes sense. The people who made H4-H6 framed their films for 1.85:1. Steve Miner didn't. It's an invalid comparison. I like a lot of films in 1:85...if they were shot for 1.85. That doesn't mean I like a movie being misframed at 1.78. And that works for you...but others might not have the same experience, so it's best that they give this matter some thought before spending their money. Especially when there's a viable Region A option in 2.35:1 available for purchase. Which there is. |

So this film is open matte, as in nothing is cropped out, its only uncropped, revealing more than the original aspect ratio intended?
Can anyone confirm this for all Echo Bridge releases? I noticed all the Hellraiser films from Echo Bridge are this aspect ratio. Are they all open matte? I hate that they're not the intended aspect ratio but I would be fine with it being uncropped, as long as I'm not losing any picture. |

So I've got the canadian triple pack, but I also picked up the Echo Bridge version of Resurrection for the extras. Is there any reason to pick up Echo Bridge's Curse or H2O?
And if there is, does the double feature look any different than the invidual releases? |

When it comes to Echo Bridge, 1.78:1 releases of 1.85:1 films are either cropped slightly to the left and right or open-matte slightly to the top and bottom (it's definitely probably the latter) and 1.78:1 releases of 2.35:1 films are either cropped or open-matte. Luckily some of their recent 2.35:1 film releases like Halloween Resurrection have retained the original ratio. FYI, if you want H20 in it's OAR, go for the Canadian triple pack. I know I did!

OK... so I've been flipping backward and forward over which is the best version to get and there's just so many different opinions that I can't make up my mind. So, if you can dumb it down for me... which is the best version (that will also play on my region B player) to get. I've read that the French Studio Canal release has forced subtitles... which really sucks, so I won't be getting that one, so whats the next best release.
Any help will be greatly appreciated ![]() |

You can remove them if you use htpc/pc drive for your playback with anydvd hd but know no other method. Although my Oppo 93 can move subtitles around so I'm hoping one can lower them out of the picture atleast. Then I would buy these discs for sure since I have regionfree player.
