I enjoy Star Wars all 6 films both the PT and The SE's of the OT. Why some fans don't like the SE's of the OT I will never understand but people have their opinions on the films and the SE. I can't change that but I like the SE's so don't complain to me just because I like the SE's their are lots of other fans like me who like the SE's. If you don't like them that's fine but don't whine and complain about the changes.

...Milos Forman has NOTHING TO DO with this!

(Okay, so he didn't ruin Amadeus by himself, but still.)

Of course not, but I'd also keep pointing out that complaining to those without the ability to give you what you want makes no difference. If you've already taken your views to the proper people, then you've done what you can, and that should be enough.

And while we're on the subject, is it really your place to agree with or defend changes to something you don't own? If you truly don't have a say, wouldn't this thread be quite a few posts shy of where it is right now?
Well, I think one of the reasons this thread has become so long is because of the rampant, endless debates between bashers and purists on both sides of the fence. Both camps seem to think they're 100% right, and everyone else is 100% wrong. Meanwhile, folks like me get caught in the middle, trying our best to offer an actual productive alternative.

Well the whole argument was made invalid the minute someone disrespected the Godfather films.

And yes Beast I got the point you were trying to make....

Technically, we really should stop referring to them as the SE's. The only versions that were SE's were the '97 ones.

The latest versions drop that unnecessary sub-classification. Since they're the only official versions.

Very true Beast it's the star wars saga and to me that is what the star wars films are a saga.

What makes an artist so special compared to, say, everyone, that they're entitled to do whatever they want without criticism? "I don't like what you did, but you're allowed to do it, so the fact that I have problems with it doesn't matter" - ??

Just because someone CAN do what they want to be personally satisfied, doesn't mean they should, or that it's right.

As for the Godfather films? I wouldn't own them if you gave them to me.
My point is you obviously have no qualms about criticizing (often in very strong terms) films that don't belong to you. You have no trouble seeing that as 'your place'.

Yet these films are supposedly off-limits. They're not our films so it is not our place to question or criticize them.

Do you really not see where I'm going with this?

See above. Only in cases where something can clearly be defined as "Art".
Are popcorn movies really art though?

That's convenient. If we agree with Lucas we have a say (in fact, we not only have a say, we're engaged in a noble pursuit), if we disagree with Lucas we don't have a say.

Convenient indeed.

And btw who exactly is threatening this right?

Is anybody suing him? Is anybody lobbying Congress for legislation?

Is anybody doing anything more dire than expressing a preference for A over B?

Nope.

Who said they could do it without criticism? This thread proves that is impossible.

Now you're getting it. You can dislike the changes. But you don't get an actual say.
It's all about the rights of the artist. The masses don't own the work, no matter how many times they've seen it.
I don't claim ownership of the Mona Lisa because I've seen it. Just like we don't have claim to Star Wars.

Sure it's right. It's the right of the artist and creator. You don't have to like it, but they have every right.

Can you point to a single person who has said otherwise?

True, but like I said, wouldn't you want the versions you love to continue to be made available in pristine quality in whatever new format is made available?

Oh so what you are saying is that we should like them just because George Lucas likes the changes? Is that what you are trying to say? Should we be sheep to George? Like I said for me personally he has made some great changes but some are just idiotic! Let me tell you that there are same fan edits out there that are much better than George's.
