That was Spring 2007

The day hasn't ended yet -- how did they count?

By the way, I'm sure Friday's gross will be much higher than $30M. The Avengers grossed $80M on its opening day.

That's just an estimate for the midnight showing.

$30 mil for just midnight is impressive. Theres like 6-8 more showings per cinema from then till midnight on just the Friday, so it could easily double or triple dare i say

Me and the 2 people I went with this morning were the only ones in the entire large theater at the 9:40 am showing lol. I couldnt believe it. Yeah it was on 10 screens with a showtime every twenty minutes but still I couldn't believe we were the only ones in the whole theater.

That is a bit suprising but bound to happen during a morning showing. Most people have work and i guess your area didn't have kids on holidays yet/ Still, very suprised but no doubt a rare circumstance

The week after Avatar came out, I got suckered into seeing it again (and again in 3D [this is when I confirmed I get migraines in a 3D movie] )...we were the only two people in the morning viewing of that which was nuts because the signs everywhere said the evening showings were sold out.... morning viewings are generally not nearly as packed and the chances of getting less than 5 people in a theater is possible. It also happened with Star Wars Episode 2 for me, but there was about a dozen people for that...

Saw a news Item Dark knight Rises headed for an 80 to 85 million dollar Friday. I think the Avengers did a 80 million Friday. This is going to be close for biggest opening weekend. I think Batman will have a weaker Saturday than the Avengers and end up with about 195 million for the weekend.

I think it will perform strongly all weekend and particularly during saturday and sunday. It's also school holidays so that's gotta add into it now

I doubt I'll even attempt to watch it this weekend.....I waited over an hour in line to see the Dark Knight back in '08.

Well, my movie drought is over, I saw 'The Dark Knight Rises' and it was awesome! I had one of the best seats in the house as my seat was for handicapped folks in wheelchairs , there were no neighboring chairs and there was enough room to stretch my legs out. I figured id sit in that chair and just movie if a handicapped person came in the theater. Again, its been awhile since I was at a theater and I forgot how much the snacks were. A small pop was $4.95 and a small popcorn was $7.50....my matinee movie ticket was $8.50. Anyhow I skipped the snacks and pop but later in the show I went and got a Häagen-Dazs ice cream bar for $4.25 it was very tasty as being ice cream it did not make me thirsty. Anyhow the PQ and AQ were top notch and while it blew away what my HT system is capable of it makes me feel pretty good that my system is still quite a performer. My HT system is at least in the same game and ballpark as in a good theater.

I had such a great time that I can say for sure that my drought is over, I will have to get to a theater more often. I am gonna try and make it to a movie at least once a month or so. But as of right now, I want to see TDKR again. What an awesome movie!

I think the shooting will affect the box office numbers, i couldn't believe there were only maybe 25 ppl in the theater, i remember packed theaters & waiting in line for the other 2 films. its sad ppl are afraid to goto a movie now.

I never said it was related to TDKR. However, the media certainly is making it out to be somewhat related. And, we all know how the populace love their reality TV... I mean... news.

shooting related..............I know for a fact that my showing and the showing before hand was sold out but some people chickened out. Only 70% of my showtime was full and it looked even less than that watching the people from the earlier time leave (we got there early and waited since it's only on one screen).

won't affect the $$$$ since the tickets were sold but still.
