Of course old films are "dated".....does it really matter if the film is good ?
As long as one enjoys it who gives a damn. |

I'm one of those people who always tries to catch a Hammer Horror he hasn't seen, without ever really enjoying them. Even the acknowledged classic tend to disappoint. Yet, I still give each and every one a proper go. My favourite (and currently the only one I own on BD) is Twins of Evil (great Synapse disc).

One of the worst I've sat through was 'The Satanic Rites Of Dracula' [Show spoiler] . Awful movie, but I watched it with a commentary by Elvira Mistress Of The Dark which made it a bit more bearable!

Anyway, the recent restoration and BD release of 'Dracula' was the first time ever I enjoyed that movie (regardless of the issues about the aspect ratio and color timing). I always found the US DVD to be much too bright and lacking in atmosphere. I was also quite fond of 'Curse of Frankenstein', though to be fair it was the first time I watched it, and the "quality" of that particular BD did take me somewhat out of the movie at times. |

Any reviews yet on THE BRIDES OF DRACULA? I believe it still comes out in a couple of weeks. Want to know what's going on with it regarding the aspect ratio. Think they were going to tinker with it cause the original master was destroyed or something????

Curse of Frankenstein is the only one of the 'classic Hammers' I haven't seen. Keep waiting for it to show up on TV here in the UK (I never got into Hammer until I was an adult).
I quite enjoyed Satanic Rites of Dracula (at least compared to the others) because it played like a particularly funky episode of The New Avengers. Yes, the thorn bush isn't terribly exciting... but it's better than To the Devil, a Daughter's rock to the head Devil death! |

Looks like the Brides and Frankenstein discs are on for the 26th. My Sainsburys order status has changed to preparing for despatch.
