I'll go see it this weekend. Previews look good. I'll admit that I never saw the originals, but I always thought "The Evil Dead" was about zombies

Uh... I dunno about that man lol. If so, I don't remember it.

I thought it was just a rumor at this point. Nothing official.

I probably won't be picking this one up. It was an alright film, but the decision to focus on gore moreso than fear and terror while also dropping a lot of comedy kind of took me out of the experience. I also felt some parts of the story didn't fit well/make sense together, and the demonic presence didn't behave as I imagined it would in some parts, where if it had it really would have improved the overall feel and tone of the film.

I did like the addiction reason for being out in the cabin, which would also help account for early strange behavior from Mia.

I disliked Eric's character. For a character ballsy and smart enough to get into this evil book, he was also terribly ineffective in general. Every other major character had their strong points (aside Natalie who didn't really feature as a major character at all, which is fine) yet he just wandered around the camera getting stabbed.

Kind of odd, as my view is the precise opposite. The horror community seem to have embraced this film with such open arms that they've been willing to overlook its many flaws. I certainly didn't hate it by any means, but it's got some real problems. The characters are paper-thin and the Deadites aren't Deadites...they're straight out of an Exorcist movie. It also wasn't the least bit scary.

The gore was great, I loved the practical FX, and there were some nice touches here and there...but overall, this just lacked the creativity and spirit of the original trilogy. It's not a bad movie...but it's certainly not the "OMG AWESOME!" movie that the early hype suggested.

Did/does this have a lot of "hype" about it? I guess I wouldn't know. I don't read reviews until after I've seen a movie, and I usually don't watch trailers.

The buzz from the early festival screenings pretty much painted it as the Second Coming.

Made me appreciate the re imagining and franchise even more.

Most of those are obvious , but those last few tidbits are very interesting. Nice article.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. It was a complete bloodbath at times, and had the same lunacy as the original. Glad both Raimi and Campbell were execs, could have turned out a lot worse. Will be adding this one fo' sho.

It's always the same. Massive non-interest when the project is announced, followed by mild excitement when the first teaser/poster comes out, then massive excitement when the redband trailer comes out, then hyped to death by the first few people who see it who, in turn, raise the expectations of everyone else. Seen it time and time again.

I remember the poster at the theater saying " The most terrifying film you will ever experience". I don't know if that was mean to be amusing , but there were lots of people jumping and the responses were pretty good. I think if you watch a lot of horror none of this will seem scary , but the Paranormal Activity crowd might be in for something.

I went and saw this today with a buddy. Major letdown for both of us. The movie is just a gorefest and nothing else. No real tension or atmosphere. The only likable character in the movie is the dog and he didn't get much screen time. I would think word of mouth would get this turkey out of the theaters fairly quickly. We were at the second showing today and were the only two people there.

If it was so terrible and word of mouth was so terrible then it wouldn't have made $30,692,460 to this point domestically and $4,500,000 foreign.

The Evil Dead was amazing because it was a haunted house story with demonic possession. Evil Dead is just a by-the-numbers demonic possession story with a boss battle at the end.
+1

It wasn't a horrible movie. But it wasn't that good either. Some of the gore was interesting, but most of the characters were walking cardboard and the movie had a distinct lack of tension for a lot of its running time. It all seemed perfunctory save for some scenes at the beginning and towards the end. Maybe I'm a jaded horror fan, but this remake/sequel/whatever didn't do much for me overall. Nice set up; lousy follow through.

Most movies earn more on Saturday than Friday, but ED made less from Friday to Saturday to Sunday. We'll see how strong it holds next weekend. It'll have at least a 60% drop. If word of mouth is bad, perhaps even 70%. Horror movies tend to be frontloaded anyway.

I think the tagline was a homage to the original films tagline "The Ultimate Experience In Grueling Terror."

Crappy movies make money the first week before everybody knows how crappy they are. This movie was crappy.Surely you are not suggesting box office receipts are a measure of quality?

I loved the film and I sure the Blu will look gorgeous since it's a gonna be a sony disc.

I don't get why people expected truly developed characters, its a Evil Dead movie. How much character development did you really expect. I just wanted to see people get terrorized by a demon and thats what I got.
