Hi Andrew,

Warner Brothers apologizes but we will only be releasing the 2D Blu-Ray as part of the 3D pack.

Kind regards
Direct from the horses mouth.

It has the same EAN as the 3D listing so I assume it's a dupe. I saw a listing for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 the other day ...

Why the mania for making people buy 3D discs? They don't make people buy DVD/blu-ray releases to get the DVD.

My guess would be that it's cheaper for them to do one big batch of 3D releases than it is to do two smaller batches of 2D and 3D releases...

Nice to have the option of both. Especially with The Hobbit as I wasnt sure about the 3D on the Theatrical cut for some reason - cant put my finger on why exactly though.

The Hobbit EE 3D+2D

Dissapointed with this packaging, the DVD version comes in a nice gatefold Digipack like the old LOTR EE, it has a nice hard Cardboard slip box.

The BD comes in a black Jumbo Amaray case, inside a hard cardboard slipbox with a window cut out to show off the lenticular cover on the case.

I actually prefer the DVD version

Damn it, looking at the DVD and how closely it resembles the original DVD EE packaging makes me want to get that (as well as the blu-ray) to put with my original DVDs. It's piontless, and I don't normally buy stuff for such silly reasons, but I like the idea of individual LOTR/Hobbit sets that match.

Mavrick is our Tesco inside man, so I'd imagine these are from the warehouse or stock room.

I quite like the packaging for the Blu-ray. Its the same as the US packaging and quite surprised WBUK have bona for the premium hard cover they are getting better. The discs in the US have artwork like the LOTR as well so I'm certain this is the same. Just gonna have to replace the amaray pack for a blue one.

We're getting the black amaray? Boo-urns. Now it won't match with the LOTR EEs and their bog-standard blue cases. Oh, the humanity!

I'll be swapping mine over with a blue one. I'm not sure what will get the black one. I might put it one Person of Interest Season one if the trays swap over. But that has 10 discs in it.

Odd they've gone over to the Dark Side with the Amaray we wanted the LotR EEs to have them too!
