I don't think it was quite as good as Max Payne 3, but the gunplay was vastly, vastly improved over 4. The gameplay in general received a massive overhaul. It really was a much better game (at least in terms of controls) than its predecessors.

Yeah I don't think the gunplay is as good as MP3 but it's obvious they used similar mechanics.

The "exclusive rewards for returning players" are a bit puzzling though ... If I were to buy, as a new customer, I'm being punished by not having access to all that stuff?
The way I took that is pretty much a thank you for buying the game on the new systems or PC. Not that you had to have bought the previous version on the last gen systems.

You're not being punished, it's the other way around. The bonus stuff is just that, bonus. It's not stuff that's going to split the community like exclusive maps or anything like that. There are TONS of cars/planes/clothes/yada yada yada in GTA V that you honestly won't even care about half of it. It's not a big deal.

As a returning buyer, none of this stuff wows me even remotely, I couldn't care less about it.

I keep trying to talk myself out of pre-ordering this. But, this was my favorite game on the PS3, so it's a futile effort.

No. As others have written it's all superficial fluff. None of it is crucial for enjoying the game. It's no different than the people who pre-ordered the PS3 version got some extra bonus items, like access to a few exclusive cars and the airship. There are so many other (and better) cars to choose from, so it's really no big deal.

Personally, I am happy that they give out a few bonus items for those of us who are mad enough to pay twice for the same game. That said, it makes no difference on my decision to get it at all. I'll pay just for the enhancement of the open world experience (better graphics, more realistic traffic, random animals etc.).

This has so far been my favorite game on the PS3, and after a year I still take it out several days a week, playing with friends or just enjoying the beautiful world, Rockstar has created, from an airplane. Can't wait to see what what the downtown skyline will look like at night, flying around in the P-996 Lazer fighter jet. Or the sunset over Paleto Bay.

If i just rent the PS3 version and play the only mode for a few hours would that qualify me for the "exclusive rewards for returning players"?

i never bougt it for the PS3 so i'm just gonna wait for the PS4 version but would like to get the extra stuff as well.

There's enough content to never need to play another game ever it seems. Really looking forward to this!

Again it doesn't matter if you have played the game on the last gen consoles. The rewards will be there for everyone wether it's your first time playing it or you played it previously. The only thing you may not get is the $1,000,000 but I think that may even be included.

actually that's the reason why I'm considering not to get it

between this and FF XIV, I won't have time for work, family, gym, movies, tv shows, other games

I was thinking of Red Dead Redemption's cover and gun play, but agree, it is much better.

Now Rockstar just needs to get rid of their insistence with the X button as running, while trying to control two analogs and other buttons while trying to run and aim. Like playing a game of Twister. They could have let us change the Run button to a shoulder button, like Watch_Dogs has, and is much easier that way to run and aim.

That actually sums it up pretty well. I play it mainly for the amazing exploration the series is known for. I did enjoy the story even so. Michael was my favorite character, but I like Franklin, who is probably the most honest person of the three. Trevor is a loose cannon; funny, but evil and indifferent to others.
GTA's Trevor is a low-life like Wayne Groh from the movie Heat, with De Niro as the boss, with John Voight, Tom Sizemore and Val Kilmer (vs Pacino, great movie).
But you can play it clean and actually be a good citizen if you want, helping people catch crooks, outside the main storyline which deals with criminals primarily and the trio of friends.

But yeah, the extras I'm not worried about. Are they only for online mode or 1 player mode too from the PS3 completion and all vehicles, clothes?
----
Playing it (and not just looking at previews) GTA V on PS4 is probably going to look next gen on PS4, knowing how much work Rockstar puts into their GTA series.

Does anyone know if the PS4 version is going to have the fold-out map of the city and the instruction manual? Like what the PS3 version had?

GTA V re-reveal tomorrow at 9am PST on IGN.

https://twitter.com/IGN/status/529317148905451520

Wonder if this is when SCEA would reveal their (if any, but they'd be crazy not to) PS4 bundles?

edit: Looks like Rockstar presented the game for 2h on PS4 recently, as CVG is running a story about it tomorrow as well.

Thanks for the news. Aside from GTAV, Far Cry 4 and ACUnity, I don't remember any other open world games this Holiday 2014 on PS4.

Absolutely blown away by the FPS look to the next gen version. I had the last gen GTA V, but never really played it because I got it right when the remaster talk started up and sold it to a friend so I am completely ready to experience this fully.
