I imagine the limited collector's statue for Battle of The Five Armies will be Smaug incinerating Lake Town. They're saving the best for last.

Arguably the biggest action set-piece and most talked about scene of Smaug was the Barrel sequence so it makes sense.

But where's my DVD set? Is this too much to ask for?

Ocean, where did that image for the DVD set come from? Was it a custom because it looks amazing.

You would think if there wasn't a standalone DVD set that there would be DVD's packaged as a combo. This is really strange as Warner has been pretty good to DVD owners lately.

I seriously doubt they would skimp on releasing this on DVD in some form- they'd be alienating a large portion of consumers if they didn't. Someone on theonering.net mentioned how amazon preorders for Batman: The Original Series were originally only for Blu-Ray, then the DVD preorders were added later. That might be the case here.

It is weird that the DVD preorders didn't go up alongside the Blu-Ray and 3D (I don't think Unexpected Journey followed this pattern), but I'd just be patient- I'm sure it will be added or announced shortly.

Custom made by me, thanks. Used one of my favorite posters for Smaug and the DVD banner I re-colored from AUJ's boxart. I'm dying for a look at the official artwork. Hopefully a link for the DVD goes up soon.

EDIT: Also note that the original wording of the announcement (after the video clip) says: "Own it on 3D, DVD, and HD Digital 3rd November." (Thought why the text didn't mention Blu-Ray I have no idea.)
The orginal text that mentioned DVD was for the UK I believe as the film is coming out on the 4th in the US.

I seems like every country, but R1 market has a DVD coming which is very odd as you would imagine the R1 is one of the largest for this kind of stuff.

Still, I'm remaining optimistic as Warner couldn't be that foolish to neglect a large portion of their revenue.

There will definitely be a DVD release of the EE, and if the AUJ EE is in any indication, it will probably have a better cover than both the Blu-ray editions (at least I thought so):

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...L._SL1500_.jpg

There will also probably be a Walmart-exclusive DVD that is just the first two discs of the set, which are the film with commentary.

I really just wanna see what Best Buy's Steelbook looks like... if they do one, that is... I don't recall the AUJ one being a hot item, and I still see them on shelves even these days. Hopefully it's not 3D-only.

Truly hope you're right. I'll take the Wal-Mart exclusive as a worst case scenario even though the boxes wouldn't match.

Hoping for some news soon.

Lol! Yeah the GoPro scenes just didn't look that good. I appreciate what they were trying to do but the way they did the scene cuts was just strange.

I'm not crazy about the new exclusive as I was really hoping for Smaug, but it will match my other barrel scene collectible:
