Naah I'm grounded mate lol. We're all just at different stages of appreciation and system setups. On top of that we each process the same info in different ways. I watched bits of Valerian again and came away with the same impression as most reviewers who give it 5/5 and 10/10. But however good the 3D is in Valerian, DeHaan and Delevingne are not even as "good?" as Tatum and Kunis. So if anything Jupiter Ascending has made me even less likely to watch Valerian right now.

I'm glad I watched JA because it looks and sounds spectacular. But it won't be on the top of my rewatch list.

Agree about Tatum. He started out as just a body and face but he's decent now. I just watched him and Sandra Bullock in the Lost City and I think he's good there too.

With how things are going at WB, the movie would probably be called Jupiter Canceled and would be written off for tax purposes.

Well I watched this recently and I was pleasantly surprised as far as the film itself. It’s definitely clunky and there are very shaky parts of the script, but the rotten tomatoes scores would imply it’s unwatchable when it’s anything but.

The concept of the movie is incredibly cool and rather original, as well as being an interesting/depressing commentary on human greed, our fear of mortality and ageing and the lengths people will go to to preserve themselves over all others. There’s a much better movie with that concept out there somewhere but this one is fine, I’d watch it again, and I thought it was excellent for the first 20-30 mins until it loses a little bit of steam.

Personally I thought Eddie Redmayne was excellent in this and portrayed a skin crawling, narcissistic Uber-privileged maniac perfectly.

Interestingly despite people praising the 3D here I can’t really recall it standing out that much, which is interesting because I watched it in the company of Lucy and her sparkly diamonds and that normally makes even mild 3D look impressive. Guess I’ll have to wait for a rewatch to assess the 3D quality again.

One of the most criminally underrated 3-D sci-fi epics ever made. Loved both the film and the 3-D, super fun and spectacular eye candy. I can’t fathom the hate for this one. A solid smash winner, and my second fave Wachowskis film after Bound.

I don't hate the movie but I also couldn't properly describe what I feel, if anything? It was just "meh!". Then I found some quotes from the lead actors which help me understand why only the fun 3D set pieces kept me from turning it off.

"When did we know [the movie would flop]? Before we started production, because our production [budget] got slashed in half," Mila Kunis

“I took four movies back-to-back without any time off. I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be in those last two movies because I didn’t have the energy. […] Jupiter Ascending was a nightmare from the jump. It was a sideways movie." Channing Tatum

“I won a prize for it—for the worst performance of the year,” Redmayne told GQ in a recent interview. “So yeah, it was pretty bad performance by all accounts.”

The budget quote felt a little surprising at first, but looking back, the costumes and sets are a little cheesy. We know Tatum can act, so his quote explains why he seems so low energy, and of course JA's hectic filming schedule didn't help. Also, while Aquaman was able to manufacture some chemistry between Arthur and Mera in editing, sadly that is not the case here. There was very little chemistry between Tatum and Kunis and their relationship is the heart of the movie. Redmayne has spoken about how his voice was a "bold choice" for the character but in summary he won a Razzie for his performance so no further comment is necessary.

But this movie was created with 3D in mind and has nice Dolby Atmos audio. All of which is (almost) its saving grace ... almost!
