Not an opening theme, but Monster's ending theme, For the Love of Life by David Sylvian, has to be one of the greatest songs ever recorded for use in an anime series.

Personal favourites include ‘Konya wa Hurricane’ (Bubblegum Crisis), ‘You wa Shock’ (Hokuto no Ken), ‘Ru-Ru-Ru-Russian Roulette’ (Dirty Pair), and ‘Cobra’s Theme’ (Space Adventure Cobra).
Deserving of a mention I think, all of Kimagure Orange Road openings throughout the entire TV series do a terrific job blending cool visual design and catchy tunes.

I'd say go for it - we could use a few more "general" anime threads in here, for topics other than those specific to individual titles...

About 6 weeks ago we had three pages of posts all basically related to the topic "Your first Anime Purchase" running rampant inside the "Photos of your Anime Collection" thread, and I had asked about starting a new thread for that topic and finding out if a mod could move all those posts into it to get them out of the photo thread, but nothing ever came of it.

To play devil advocate, it is the mod's responsibility to keep threads on topic. And one way of doing that is moving off-topic posts into a new thread for discussion instead.

Looks like they are finally releasing it on bluray.

Big News early Monday morning, it was announced on the official Evangelion site that the original 26 episode TV series + the 4 “Director’s Cuts”, Death & Rebirth (theatrical version), End of Evangelion, and Death
True2 will all get HD remasters and be released as a BluRay boxset with a tentative release date in Summer 2015. No word on any technical specifications or extras, or the price which is sure to be an arm ad a leg.

This is excellent news and I will be buying but what is going on with rebuild?
I find it strange this is happening while 3.33 from Funi seems to be vaporware and 4 seems to be also.

Couldn't they stick with one thing like release and finish rebuild or work on the original and then do rebuild.

You're questioning why NGE is coming out on Blu-ray in Japan, and why 3.33 is stalling in the U.S. These are separate events that have no bearing on one another.

Consider the situation for Japan. It's 2015. It only makes sense to release NGE on Blu-ray this year. It's the 20th anniversary, plus this is the year the series takes place.

As for the U.S., FUNimation has individual licenses for each New Theatrical Edition movie. Yes, they're struggling to get 3.33 out, but I don't really mind. I'd rather watch them all when 3.0+1.0 is released on U.S. BD. One would assume that they will (not) lose the bidding war for 3.0+1.0, but you never know. I'll only be upset if the final movie is also over a year and a half late from the originally intended release date.

I don't believe anyone currently holds the NGE license in the U.S. right now. I could be wrong, but I think it lapsed after ADV died. And with reverse importation fears, we're probably two to three years away from a U.S. release of the original TV series.

I also mentioned 4 if you didn't see that. I was meaning there hasn't been any movement on rebuild whether here or in Japan. I thought 4 was suppose to come out this year and so when will it be released or is it even been working on?

I suppose I might have to be more clearer in what I mean.

I sold my Platinum Collection DVDs back in 2014 (while kept all of the books) so I'm ready for whenever the Blu-rays are released by FUNimation.
