Hmm...no mention of it being a special edition or anything like that. I really hope this has all the features from the old two disc dvd set and isn't a barebones release.

With Universal it could go either way. They don't really label their stuff "Special Edition" or "Collector's Edition" anymore.

Considering this is Universal and all their other Spielberg titles have retained all extras, I have little doubt this will do the same. I wish they'd done new art for it though.

Watched it today on I think Cinemax. Looks so good. I can't wait to upgrade my atrocious Full Screen DVD.

I was hoping they would use the art from the Special Edition DVD and note it's anniversary. Seems odd that they didn't. This looks like the standard cover art and it could have been used at any time... but it IS the 10th Anniversary.

In this case it almost makes sense.

It's an initial release so it doesn't have to distinguish itself from previous editions and ten years isn't long enough to have any real upside to reminding consumers it's not that new.

IOW, what's the point of stamping stamp 'old movie' on the cover unless there's something to gain? Hell, sometimes it seems like studios go out of their way to avoid letting people know how old movies are (generic, 'modern' cover art comes to mind here).

I believe that the major studios are only using anniversary banners when it comes to "limited" editions. Think Casablanca, LoA, Schindler's List etc. It's worth nothing that neither of non-limited/regular releases of aforementioned titles doesn't carry anniversary banners on their front cover.

Regarding the movie itself: I procrastinated watching it forever, so when I finally did, I was blown away by it (no pun intended). A gripping, powerful, clever thriller; to put it simply - an extraordinary film. Among Spielberg's five best films, IMO. Without being political, I'll just say I love that the movie doesn't take any sides. Two thumbs way up.

Ugh, I should have known that god-awful single disc DVD packaging would come back to haunt me.

Back before the DVD was released, TheDigitalBits posted five potential cover designs Universal was considering, and of course, they chose the worst one - making it look like a standard action thriller. It didn't matter much at the time, because they used the theatrical poster image with a gorgeous border for the Collector's Edition DVD.

But now it rears its ugly head again....

Here were the five potential designs back then:

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but I saw a lot of comments talking about a stand-alone version of Duel. There WAS one available briefly from JB Hi-Fi in Australia, but it seems to have been taken off the site. Not sure why that is. I didn't pick it up, because I decided to go with the set, so I can't report on if there were any issues.

It's sort of like a milestone for movies. That's the main thing, IMO.

At this point I'm so grateful to get it on BD at all that they could release it in a plain brown wrapper, or with coverart for an Adam Sandler movie, and I'd still be happy

I've been intending to rewatch it for like four years, but every time I've reached for the DVD I've told myself, "The BD could be coming soon, wait", and I have. So glad this is finally getting released.

I would feel exactly that way about the Star Wars OT and original unaltered and DNR-free Disney classic animation films!

I hope so too! Either way, I just wish Universal would let us know, as I will look into picking up the 2disc dvd and adding it to this release.

The second one with the red banner on the top is hands down the best one of the bunch.

That or some variation of it should have been the cover for the Blu-ray. I am surprised they just went with the standard DVD art. If it does have the extra bonus features, it also might make some buyers think that it doesn't have them or that it's barebones like the first DVD.
