Just to try and clear up the censorship issue, there are now scans online for the following discs:
US: 2:08:44.174 (h:m:s.ms) 26304 kbps video, 4935 kbps audio (also has English audio description and DD tracks in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai and Ukrainian, along with DTS in Russian, and additional Chinese, Estonian, Indonesian, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay and Vietnamese support as subtitles) UK: 2:08:44.174 (h:m:s.ms) 26276 kbps video, 4935 kbps audio (only English options and audio description) ES: 2:08:44.174 (h:m:s.ms) 26304 kbps video, 4935 kbps audio (also has DTS tracks in French, Spanish, German, Italian and (hidden) Japanese, along with additional Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hindi, Norwegian and Swedish support as subtitles) Unknown: 2:08:37.668 (h:m:s.ms) 26268 kbps video, 4936 kbps audio (also has a hidden DD Spanish track only, along with additional Arabic and Hindi support as subtitles) At this point, we are missing another Eastern European BD, which would have Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Serbian, Turkish et al. options. What is not clear, then, is the following: Where is the cut disc to be sold? The version with DTS Spanish should be sold in Spain, while the US BD, with the DD Spanish track, should be sold in Mexico. Also, why has Fox provided a Spanish track, but locked it from the cut version playlist? Is there, then, a version on that disc that is uncut, where the Spanish options would be available, and if not, what is the purpose of hiding the Spanish options in the first place? |

The Middle East and India tend to be more censorous than even the UK, so makes sense that their version is slightly shorter, as some of the jokes would not be acceptable in those countries.
It does imply though that all other countries are getting the same run time which corresponds with Vaughan's comments that nothing was cut in the UK. So any changes are only going to be visual, digital removal or addition or blood etc, or changes to the soundtrack to mask sounds of violence etc. Fox are not normally concerned about parallel imports within Europe so seems strange they have gone for at least two Western Europe disks, with one only for the UK and Ireland markets, unless they were forced to by rating reasons. |

The most surprising aspect, though, is not just the localised UK BD, which appears uncut but has a slightly different video bitrate, but that damn Spanish track hiding in another playlist of the BD with the cut version. In fact, info I see at Mixup would somewhat corroborate the idea of Mexico getting that disc: http://www.mixup.com.mx/Mixup/detpro...ku=86162730450 but again, they seem to think there are East Asian subtitles on their disc which do not, by any appearance, seem to be there. And why would Mexico cut something like this anyway? Especially not when all of East Asia is getting the US BD, which also has the Spanish track on it? I doubt they would. The whole thing is really bizarre. |

Indeed, I have often wondered how and where people in Arabic territories get their Blu-rays from. I guess local stores just go with the closest geographical import with Arabic support, or enthusiasts simply import them from internet shops.

I understand mate, not ideal. I take HMV for granted as I have one where I live and one where I work. That said if they can get the website back to how it used to be ill seriously consider using their online function. I recall the days of getting pre-orders on the Friday before release, man that was good!

I buy my Blu-rays from Amazon US and Amazon UK (A few times from Germany, France and Spain too) and don't mind the lack of Arabic subtitles although having them would be much better for family and friends. Also have Region A and Region B players to avoid regional locking. It is always funny when I see many releases from CEE (Central and Eastern European Countries) with Arabic subtitles but not from The UK or other European countries which are way close to the Middle East than CEE countries. I've even sent some complaints to Warner Bros. and other studios long ago and got no replies! |
