The appropriate response is “guilty as charged”, but not liking milquetoast comedy doesn’t seem to me like something I should feel guilty about.

Eh, people aren't going to understand every single pop culture reference that comes their way, though it ably demonstrates why we're so not on the same page about so much stuff. Example: Bonus points for "milquetoast" as my feeble mind had to google that shit.

So, to those that already have the bluray, would you please tell us how it compares with both dvd releases?

Loss? Why not keep disc 5 from the previous set?

Watching the first episode now via iTunes - it's awful. The CGI is somehow worse than 1998-era TV CGI and they threw out all the miniature shots in favor of this new CGI. It screams low-budget rush job. The frame rates are all wacky and half of the shots look like 2D images made to move across the screen. I have a pre-ordered Blu-ray on its way to me in the mail tomorrow and I might honestly send it back for a refund. This is terrible...

Just finished watching the first episode on blu-ray. Loved it. Great picture and the sound is atmos. Don’t really remember the original special effects but the new ones I thought were extremely good.

Nothing like creating a burner account to add an additional (crap) voice to the ongoing conversation.

FYI, the remastered version has also premiered on HBO Go and HBO Now today, if you want to preview it before picking up the Blu-ray.

Not a "burner" account - I joined this forum for the first time today to specifically post about this awful release. I waited ten years for a HD BR release of this series - which is my favorite TV production of all time - and what I got was a rush job with over-saturated color correction, digital noise removal, missing production music, and cheap crap CGI outsourced at the last minute in order to cash in on the recent moon landing anniversary. If you don't think these new VFX shots aren't poorly done, get your eyes fixed - they don't even utilize motion blur.

I seriously recommend fans of the series do this before buying the Blu-ray. Viewers expecting a release that is faithful to the original production - or even the original home video releases - are going to be disappointed.

Also, if anyone thinks I'm being too unkind about this, ask yourselves why Tom Hanks - the man who created this project and spent three years of his life on it - hasn't done an ounce of promotion towards it. Not one tweet. Not on interview. Not one media appearance. This is a rush-job cash grab by HBO. No more, no less.

It’s a catalog release. What A-List celebs ever promote those?
Studios cross promote. This probably got the green to coincide its the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing.
