I do this in theaters when there's an extra scene in between, or if I am looking for someone specific in the credits, but don't normally run the credits when at home......
I'm a film score fan, so yeah, if it's any good, I often do let the credits roll on so I can hear the music play out. (Unless it's a series of godawful pop/rock/rap songs.) Also a lot of older movies (like Airport, I think) have short end credits with a simple cast list or even "The End." I know it's a "First World Problem" and all, I just find it odd and somewhat annoying. Some movies, when they're over, you a need a little quiet time to process what you've seen, and it's jarring when they start over. When you finish a book, it doesn't magically re-open to page one. When a CD is over, it stops. Even VHS tapes would stop! I know, I just have to press a button, but dammit, I want my bargain-basement priced discs to be PERFECT, and not inconvenience me in the slightest! What are we, barbarians?!?

Back on topic, wasn't there an episode of The Incredible Hulk that used footage from Airport '75 (just like they stole from Duel)? That would've been a fun extra!

I love the short end credits of 60s/70s movies. Especially the Apes movies. I can't imagine the Apes movies with lengthy end credits. That would diminish the gut-punch factor of their endings.

Default Airport 79

[QUOTE=steev210;12348352]Great to see some lovin' for Airport '79. I know many fans hate it, but I actually enjoy it very much, sub par fx aside. I think it had an interesting premise and with a few more passes on the script would have resulted in a better film.

Steev, so glad to see a fellow "79" fan! I really do enjoy this one, and you are absolutely right - more work on the script would have made it better.

I was under the impression that Blakely's scenes were all from the original filming! I stand corrected I love the scene in the newsroom ("just how far would you go to protect yourself, Kevin?") and the scene by the Seine, where Wagner is explaining his "philosophy" to her. Yes, that added scene where she reveals she's pregnant does make him even more disgusting than in the theatrical print. And his last scene is even better in the extended.

Yeah, I kind of like that too. I usually just let the discs run while I put away glasses and popcorn bowls, and make sure my hands are thoroughly washed so that no snack grease gets anywhere near the discs or the case when I take it out of the machine. The funniest discs are the Warner releases that launch into the piracy warnings in about fifty different languages after the movie is all done. Have you seen those?

There is an episode of Airwolf that uses footage from Airport '77. It's essentially a remake of the movie.

Those things are not funny at all. Back 10 or so years ago, we didn't have a remote for the DVD player. So whenever it hit those warning screens, it was hell.

Popped in '77 last night to spot check the PQ and ended up watching almost the entire film; Only reason I didn't finish was because I was too exhausted. PQ was surprisingly good. I wonder if Universal did any restoration work on this. This release would've been complete had they included the TV footage. Maybe Shout Factory will license this series in the future and give us a better release.

Amazon.com just sent me an email saying that the savings of my pre-order of Airport: The Complete Collection comes out to seven dollars, since I ordered when it was $24.99, and it's $17.99 now.

I'm happy about this. Most Amazon Savings emails tell me that I saved something like $0.01, $0.59, or something of the sort, but seven dollars isn't hay.

Ditto, first time I ever saw it though. Not as thrilled with Airport '79.

I just finished Airport 77. I have fond memories of frequenting the Universal tour as a child and remember when they were shooting the film. The tour bus rode past where they made a mock up of the plane. The construction guys were putting the finishing touches on it for future filming. I used to have a picture I took of it, but I have not been able to find it unfortunately. My dad and I went to see the film opening weekend. It was fun watching it again and thought the PQ was terrific. Now time to put on Rollercoaster which delivered to me today.

I'm getting nostalgic for the Universal films during the mid-70's. I'd love to have The Hindenburg, Swashbuckler and The Great Waldo Pepper.

In studying up on the Airport movies last Summer I thought it was neat that Universal Studios had an attraction where you could star in a mini version of Airport 77.

This just one of many many videos that cool people took the time to put on Youtube.

There's a great German BD of The Hindenburg. It's region-locked, but judging by your collection you seem to have a regionless player.

Universal Studios Airport '77 Screen Test Theater video (from Dec. 1980) - YouTube

This just one of many many videos that cool people took the time to put on Youtube.
I remember that show. It was an audience participation show. Later they turned into a Star Trek, then The Flintstones. Not sure if they have anything now. The Universal tour used to be more about the studio and filmmaking back then. IMO it was much more fun. I used to drive my dad crazy to take me at least 3 or 4 times a year so I could see what was filming what was new. It was under $20 for admission so it wasn't that expensive. Now it is an amusement park. But you can buy an annual pass.

I'm going to hold off. Universal is still quite active with catalog titles and Shout is releasing titles I never expected to be released. But thanks for the heads up.

You know something? I still like the sequels better, too...

I just learned to "appreciate" the original for what it is more as I got older.

Threw in '77 last night from the Terminal Pack...

Man, do I really want that TV cut with the missing army base footage in the beginning!

They all have a generic menu when pressing 'pop up menu'. I thought all Universal discs had this kind of thing.

I'm taking my Universal 100th Anniversary Blu-ray of Airport to the used movie store to sell off for a few dollars, since the arrival of the box set at my doorstep tomorrow will make it a redundancy in my collection.
