LG better UP THEIR GAME...
Jibucha over at the Sony X800 thread just posted: Sony UBP-X800 4K UHD Blu-ray player :: Dolby Vision (confirmed - today) (this information may not widely be known) today (yesterday it was not so) :: Sony rep confirmed forthcoming support for Dolby vision he confirmed the following: - 1 - this player has the required hardware chip to support Dolby Vision - 2 - it does not support Dolby Vision (out of the box) - 3 - it will (as LG - Philips - Oppo) support Dolby Vision via a later (eventual) firmware update (when exactly is unknown) - 4 - licensing agreements are now worked out - 5 - Dolby Vision supported televisions are as already known (X930E - X940E - Z9D) - 6 - the remarkable X900E does not have neither the required hardware chip or processor power to support Dolby Vision, seemingly impossible, so it will not needless to say, i immediately purchased and will have it in a few days (nice day today - indeed) i was both expecting & hoping this would eventually be announced, as i would not purchase without Dolby Vision my purchase was immediate (literally seconds) once that i was informed and subsequently (real time) confirmed via the Sony rep (seemingly, there is no possibility of error in this regard, as he was contacted several times as i waited for further confirmation that there was no misunderstanding) _____________________ THUS We who follow Blu-Ray.com Forum Threads knows Sony X800 is a great PQ blu ray player. And the Sony X800 has on their selection page Amazon, Netflix, VUDU App. That means Sony x800 can send any of VUDU's 92 DV UHD Atmos movies over to an AVR to Blast Atmos Immersive 3D Sound. If it doesn't turn out to be an April Fools' Day prank, I think I'm going to go for the Sony then.

With this Spring EVEN Philip's BDP7502 Blu Player will be Dolby Vision. Is Powerhouse Sony suppose to remain JUST HDR10??? With Sony having their Dolby Vision Movie Studio, DV A1e OLEDS, Z9D, etc
This Spring. The moment Shoppers see DV Blu discs on the shelves... Whose going to buy a Sony x800 not DV capable?? Well I guess Samsung TV owners might Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 04-01-2017 at 04:59 PM. |

I've realized one thing that has started to bug me about my Samsung UHD player, and this only applies to listening to Bluray audio, is that without a display on the front it necessitates switching inputs when trying to change a track. It doesn't look like this player has a front display either. Is this going to be the norm on new UHD players? It's a very minor nitpick and only really applies when I'm watching sports and also listening to music on it, so not a deal breaker. But I never really realized I missed this feature until this minor use case
Sorry if missed this being covered earlier as well. |

I picked up the UP970 on Friday and have spent the weekend playing with it plugged into my LG OLED 55C6V. Happy to report that I'm fairly satisfied. I'm in the UK, bought it from John Lewis. Yes it's 24/50 out of the box, and no there are no current updates online for it. But I don't feel the need for 60Hz anyway so that doesn't bother me. No handshake issues between player and TV, probably because they're both LG. Easy plug & play. Haven't tried using the Netflix or Youtube apps in the player, but why would I want to when they're in the TV and I can watch Dolby Vision Daredevil through that?! I'm keen to see how both bits of kit perform after the player gets its Dolby Vision firmware update and there are discs to play (first on my list will probably be the new Ghost In The Shell disc just announced as Dolby Vision enabled). I hadn't watched any of my HDR discs until this weekend, and I think I now see the limitations of HDR10, as despite the 4K HDR quality being generally excellent, I can see some of the slight colour banding that has been reported across many makes and models. Top tip for LG 4K HDR viewers: switch your colour gamut setting to Normal not Wide when watching a 4KBD. There's a Youtube video out there that explains that in Normal mode the TV automatically detects the rec.2020 gamut, whereas Wide artifically over-enhances the colours. The colour banding is less visible in Normal gamut mode, and the colours look more correct anyway.

Just saw several YouTube HDR10 Blu ray Disc movies by Mr. 4K Upscaler.
The Revenant, The Martain, John Wicks on the Sony x800. Gosh Damn. I swear I have not found OPPO 203 Youtube of these same movies that had HIGHER PQ than the Sony X800. Mr. 4K Upscaler also has a DOLBY VISION Youtube from VUDU App of Live Die Repeat with John Cruise. Likely from Sony x800 VUDU app(?). Stunning PQ. DV streaming mind you. Astonishing PQ. Easily on par or better than HDR10 Blu ray disc. If LG UP970 PQ is this Good then We are in Movie Heaven. And LG BE Wise. Nothing less than include Amazon, Netflix, VUDU App!!!!! Ditto!!!!!! No. I can't answer that. I don't own a 8TB (or larger) hard-drive. All I can tell you is that it has a USB port on the front. But don't you have a TV with a USB port?

I'm also interested if the U.S. version has support for other voltages. Can someone look at the chip inside when they get theirs? I haven't got an answer from LG about it yet, and I know a competitor's product states their U.S. version only supports 120v on the label and product specs, but it actually supports 220 as well (read on chip and tested).
*Update: 7 Apr* LG failed to provide any info via support. This is their response, "The information that we have at the moment about the UP970 is limited to what it says on the website." I'm holding off my purchase until I can find an answer, so any help is appreciated. Last edited by Dexterous; 04-07-2017 at 08:47 AM. |
