Here's the crazy part: I know it's not a GKids screening, but apparently the Fathom Events showing of Cagliostro later this month is going to be the Streamline dub, not the newer one. Fathom posted a clip, and loads of people in the comments were all sorts of bewildered. I don't own Cagliostro, so I'm assuming the Blu-ray is the newer dub? Either way, I'm checking out subtitled screening, so it's neither here nor there for me, just curious.

The dub with the swears (sometimes called the Manga Ent dub for their DVDs) is the one where Solid Snake is Lupin.
![]() I'm sure Disney just used the disc available, but if they had a choice you know they'd pick the cleaner one. ![]() |

He was nominated for When Marnie Was There at the 88th Academy Awards ... but lost to Inside Out
I guess they have until November to change it to "From Academy Award Nominated Director" |

^GKIDS releases will most certainly include the literal subtitles for the Japanese track - something which many Disney releases missed out on. If you intend to watch these movies in the original language, GKIDS releases should be the way to go.

I was just looking through the DMC website and not only is the Studio Ghibli section gone, but the only Ghibli films I could find were Spirited Away(BD only), The Wind Rises, and The Secret World of Arrietty. The ladder two say WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! On the one hand, I'm glad I recently got all of the Disney releases before they went out of print (and will most likely become really expensive) on the other hand I wish I'd known GKIDS was going release new (and possibly better) versions just a few months after I bought them.

So I love all these movies and already had the vast majority of the Disney ones, except I never had bought Ponyo, The Secret World of Arriety, Porco Rosso, or The Cat Returns. 3 of them (all but Porco Rosso) were recently on sale on Amazon for a really good price and I just bought them on a whim, not really considering whether I should wait for the new releases. Did I make the right call? Or are these releases going to be superior in *significant* ways? If the only difference is likely to be the subtitles on the Japanese audio tracks, I don't really mind much to be honest, but I should have researched more perhaps. The only other Disney ones that I don't have are Tales From Earthsea, Whisper of the Heart, and The Wind Rises.
Should I pick those up, and Porco Rosso, before they go out of print? Or should I get the new releases (though I don't think we're getting new release of The Wind Rises, so I guess I ought to pick that up sooner than later?) which seem to be cheaper than Disney's releases on Amazon (pre-order prices vs current Disney prices that is)... What is smartest, if I want to own all of these movies? I've put off the ones I don't have yet long enough! |
