I'm not holding my breath for Disney to release Aliens on UHD, but Terminator seems like it might get licensed out by MGM to someone like KL for UHD.

The problem isn’t the license w/ref to T1, it’s Cameron. Didn’t Kino insider guy hint that someone had actually picked it up years ago? But because Cameron had to approve everything and didn’t have the time to do so they had to let it lapse.

Doubt it would be Kino even if it were to come up again though, not after the withering comments they put on Facebook about Cameron being too interested in blue cat people to do anything else

Yeah. Kino does not have it, it has changed licensors. I suspect Scream got The Terminator but after the fiasco with Piranha II, they dropped it. If any boutique has it, I suspect MVD under their Rewind brand. They can reuse the approved Cameron master and include the archival extras. MVD has done this with other MGM films.

Titanic on 4K should be coming at the end of December 2022.

It will likely be released next year, following the movie's theatrical re-release.

With all the tweaks Cameron made for the 2012 release, I'm surprised he didn't fix the face replacement shot. It's always looked terrible.

Considering that’s mid-‘90s technology at work that shot is amazing IMO, Kate’s face never quite lines up but Leo’s looks good. The seams are more than visible, they were obvious back in 1997, but the slow motion, flickering light source and water everywhere would make that a tricky shot to pull off now, never mind 25 years ago.

Interesting video. So I guess we presume that because he wanted it denoised and sharpened and regraded for the theatrical 3D release then that's the transfer that he wants on UHD Bluray? I haven't seen it for myself but I've heard almost all negative things, which is depressing.

Paramount

Apparently, Paramount had scheduled Titanic for an October 2022 release, but had to postpone it (most probably due to Disney's worldwide date)

Apparently Titanic will be remastered in HFR using TrueCut Motion:

I wonder if that will be used on the 4K BD too.

James Cameron is officially crazy. He should share his jail cell with Peter Jackson.

Clips of The Hobbit that were 'motion graded' using this system were shown off at a recent tech expo thingy, now I know it was shot and finished to 48fps anyway but the TrueCut tech is all about adjusting the HFR so you can get more smoothness when you want it and more of a film like look in other shots.

Indeed, this is James Cameron's remit for HFR as he hates the 'soap opera effect' just like most people do, but he wants smoother motion with less strobing on the action scenes especially in 3D. They've been touting a "remastered" version of the first Avadah movie too and it's highly likely that it's also been interpolated for selective HFR using this system or one like it.
