Your in the minority as almost all the online reviews say Die Hard 4k blu ray has excellent picture quality for a older title, and most of the people on online forums agree with the reviews.

Sony didn't come out in top for picture quality, they actually only scored 3.5/5 for overall picture quality taking into account all the 4k blu rays they have released. Other studios scored higher 4/5 for picture quality including Universal and Warner Bros and Paramount. Maybe a bit harsh Sony only 3/5 for picture quality but don't shoot the messenger

Ps. most of my Sony blu rays are excellent video audio quality. Only have a few Sony 4k blu rays Spiderman Homecoming, Jumanji (original 1995 version) good video quality but not as good picture quality as other recent and catalog blu ray titles from other studios that i own like Logan and Saving Private Ryan.

Their scientists have been working in shifts round the clock - bunsen burners, test tubes, those weird triangular rulers, pi and other scientific s***. And you just dismiss their detailed findings? The video score for each title is combined to a average for each studio so it is a fair accurate system. Hi def digest reviews are most of the time correct apart from the odd one, quite a few of the reviews are word for word same as on here Blu ray com so some of the reviewers must be the same.

If you think you can do better then do your own head to head with the vast amount of 4k blu rays you own

Sarcasm at it's finest every video score on Hi def digest for every 4k blu ray from each studio is rounded up hence Sony getting 3.5/5.

You may not agree with it but it's a scientific fair and accurate way to get a overall rating of picture quality for each studio for picture quality on 4k blu rays.

Hi def digest reviews of my pitiful 15 4k blu rays have been spot on and practically the same video rating on every other online 4k blu ray review site.

Some of Sony's 4k blu ray releases have been stunning but all 5s don't kid yourself

Spiderman Homecoming is one, good transfer but it should of been even better. Sony ended up penny pinching only using an upscale. Was shot at 2.8k but Sony cheaped out using a 2k digital intermediate for the 4k blu ray.

Close Encounters of the third kind 4k blu ray is another one Sony messed up picture quality. Yes some of the problems were on older oleds but lots of people said the picture problems were on lcds too, people suggesting do this do that, you shouldn't have to tinker to a already calibrated tv to get a accurate picture when watching a movie.

1984 Ghostbusters 4k blu ray also could of been better than what Sony released. Yes it's a older 35mm film but similarly 80s 35mm catalog titles like Die Hard 4k blu ray showed picture quality could be good if done right.

Its a UHD disc shootout not 1080p blu ray shoot out. But regarding 1080p blu rays my Sony mastered in 4k Glory, Leon and Fifth Element are all stunning.

Can only think certain UHD titles like Spiderman Homecoming been an upscale and others not using Dolby Vision cost Sony point's.

Just checked out the 4k transfer on iTunes and it looks like the best Predator will probably look. I'm sure the 4K BD will be a definite improvement over the two available BDs.
