A deleted scene or a commentary would be the only reason to upgrade? Not a better transfer or the original sound mix without the pitch alteration and replaced effects? Because those things (which actually impact the film itself) matter one heck of a lot more to me than extras. To each their own, I guess.

I’m assuming you mean the theatrical and workprint? Both are on the German BD. The workprint is SD, but this isn’t Blade Runner; I kinda doubt Kino or whoever might release it in the U.S. would do a fresh scan of this version (hell, most of the time Kino doesn’t seem to do fresh scans at all).

I think the transfer is alright. If anything the disc has some decent special features as well as the alternate version of the film. I really doubt anyone is going to improve on this release, unfortunately. Plus, the limited digibook edition is quite pretty (just wish I could read German). And eve if the transfer were aces on the rumored domestic release, I really don’t like the film enough to upgrade, myself.


On another note, there are now two versions of the London disc listed on the Arrow site, one cheaper. Is it possibly a version without the swag?

If they're releasing a standard edition alongside the LE because of popularity does this mean the LE is in danger of selling out?

Could also mean that Universal is releasing a 4K UHD version some time soon and Arrow wants to get their standard out also before.

Boy, American Werewolf is one of my all-time favorites but this feels like quintuple dipping! I suppose if I get the LE, and they release a UHD later, I can combine them into the fancy box?

Yes, yes you can - and I was thinking the same thing
I would doubt the Uni 4K would have all the supplements this Arrow one has, so it's a no brainer for me.

I’m one of those terrible people who actually thought the last blu looked and sounded quite good. I’m also not sensitive to pitch change like many people.

That being said I’m so ready to never watch that disc again and place this one among my ever-growing collection of Arrow limited editions.

It kind of makes me a bit sad that if a UHD comes out, it will render Arrow's transfer useless. While ,without a doubt, Arrow's special features will be superior, I probably won't be viewing the film via Arrow's version.

Same here. Even if a UHD is released down the road, I consider Arrow releases to be definitive so that's where the buck stops for me. I only upgrade to 4K on a case-by-case basis. If Universal unleashes a UHD of AWiL and the reviews are favorable I'll grab a copy and make my own combo pack, otherwise I'm just wasting money

If the Waterworld UHD is any indication.... I wouldn't bet on being sad about Arrow, but the UHD.

This is how I feel as well. I suppose if one day a UHD is available for some ridiculously low price of like $5 or something and has been noted as a significant improvement over whatever Arrow gives us that there is always that possibility but since neither of those qualifiers seems likely the Arrow edition is likely going to prove more than enough for me.

I recently rewatched the "restored edition" (I have the Best Buy steelbook). The movie itself looks fine, but there are some noticeable sloppy moments. The opening title segment looks super rough until the actual movie starts, I remember ejecting the disc to make sure I hadn't accidently put a DVD in my player.
