These shots are some of the most drastic in difference I noticed...

I said what I said. I think it's terrible. And Final Frame need to get a new scanner, one that doesn't bury faint vertical lines in the highlights.

Forgive me for being obtuse, but how are you capturing those 4K images? Are they being displayed in HDR on your display which you're 'print screening' them from, or have you converted to SDR first?

Oh the problem is not Final Frame, unless you would have access to the film's negative (which we don't) you could only see the amount of work that was done to properly scan and treat the formats they got from NASA, trust me. That
took about a year of R&D in-house. If anything they did an absolutely superb job in my opinion.

Yes, both straight Blu Ray/HDR captures and look exactly the same on my Samsung NeoQLED and 4k monitor.

Is it terrible? like I said, I agree in some few parts yes, in others the UHD does its magic and looks stunning. My kick with this film was resolution from the beginning so I wouldn't sit happy with just the Blu Ray.

It’s got absolutely nothing to with the film materials themselves. I’ve seen the exact same issue with vertical lines in highlights on two other scans of completely different movies (and different film materials thereof) that Final Frame have done. Whatever the issue with their scanner is it’s basically hidden in SDR space but in HDR it’s badly exposed and is not fit for that purpose IMO.

The last image, I don't think that video monitor was blue IRL... So at least one of them has a "wrong" grade.
